State Meet Recap - Div 3 and 4
Boys 4x800 Meter Relay
The St. Augustine boys took an early lead in the division 4 4x800 relay and were the first to pass the baton in the 2nd leg followed by Gilbert Christian in 2nd but it was Gilbert Christian crossing the finish line in first with an 8:23.80. Glendale Prep finished 2nd in 8:34.27 followed by Joseph City (8:35.12) and Scottsdale Prep Academy (8:38.55).
Running for Gilbert Christian were Tanner Conover (Jr), Caleb Young (Fr), Tj Malm (So) and Logan Pinkerton (So).
It was a tight group at the first 400 of the 4x800 relay for the division 3 boys with Shadow Ridge leading the group of Sedona, Page, Tuba City and Rio Rico. At the first exchange Sedona took the lead followed by Rio Rico and Tuba City with Page in 4th. Sedona stayed in the lead at the next handoff with the same teams following except Morenci moved ahead of Page for 4th place, however, half way through the third leg Rio Rico took a commanding lead with Tuba City in 2nd. The final hand-off for Rio Rico went to Carolos Villarreal who has an 800 personal best of 1:53.23. Villarreal took a 6- 8 second lead and turned it into a 16 second win crossing the finish line in 7:55.38. Page took 2nd in 8:11.80 followed by Tuba City in 8:13.48 and Morenci in 8:19.05.
Running for Rio Rico were Max Bojorquez (Jr), Amaya Oscar (Jr), Ben Noriega (Sr) and Carlos Villarreal (Jr).
Girls 1600 Meter Run
Scottsdale Prep junior, Amber Miller (photo right), moved to the front of the pac from the start of the race and led a small group through 3 laps of the 1600 until making a move to separate from the group in the final lap. Grace Johnson (Jr., Pusch
Ridge) made the movewith her but was unable to pass her in the final 100. Miller finished in 5:17.21 with Johnson taking 2nd in 5:18.09. Miller’s teammate Madison Babione (Sr) finished 3rd with a time of 5:22.53 with Valentina Nyhart (Fr., Northland Prep) in 4th in 5:22.96.
In the girls division 3 1600 meter run, Allie Schadler (Fr., Rio Rico, photo left) pushed the pace quickly with a 71 first 400. Megan Goettle (So., Mingus Union) was still on Schadler’s shoulder through lap 3 in 3:52. Schadler won the race in a time of 5:04.62 followed by Goettl in 5:07.14. A pair of Ganado sophomores finished 3rd (Daangoiina Haven, 5:12.37) and 4th (Nikesha Eagleman, 5:14.79).
Girls 800 Meter Run
Charlotte Moore (Sr., Scottsdale Prep, photo left) took the lead in the division 4 800 meter run and ran with it pulling teammate Amber Miller (Jr) with her. Moore finished the race in 2:22.01 with Miller finishing 2nd in 2:24.61. Rachel Matsumoto (Jr., Tempe Prep) finished a photo finish 3rd in 2:24.91 with Kaylee Bowers (Sr., Pusch Ridge) in 4th in 2:28.47.
Brianna Loughran (Sr., Tuba City) sat back in the lead pac and waited for the right time to kick. With about 250 meters to go it looked as though Loughran was shot out of a canon as she relied on her strong kick to take the lead all the
way to the finish line. Loughran finished the race in 2:18.92 followed by Allie Schadler in 2:21.20, Daangiina Haven in 3rd in 2:22.26 and Megan Goettl in 4th in 2:22.66. Walden Grove freshman Hayden Zuniga placed 5th in 2:22.

Boys 3200 Meter Run
Josh Hoskinson (Sr., Arizona Lutheran, photo left) was on a mission to win his 3rd straight 3200 meter state medal and to PR and he did both. Hoskinson had a first lap time of 67 seconds followed by a 69 second lap, a 70 3rd lap, 71 4th lap with
a 4:37.93 1600. His next3 laps were 72, 74 and 75 with a final lap of 66 for a final time of 9:26.83 and a 2 second PR. Kyle Cajero (Sr., Pusch Ridge) clocked a 9:37.17 for 2nd followed by Jonathan Hall (Sr., Northland Prep) in 9:48.12 and Brandon Corke (Sr., Veritas Prep) in 9:55.18.
The division 3 3200 race played out a little differently with Jeffrey Miller (Jr., Page, photo right), Ben Noiega (Sr., Rio Rico) and Oscar Amaya (Jr., Rio Rico) running as a tight group for 5 laps. Miller made a move in the 6th lap to put some distance between himself and the 2 Rio Rico runners but in the final lap Noriega pushed to catch Miller and came close but Miller crossed the finish line first in 9:20.24. Noriega was 2nd in 9:21.59 followed by teammate Amaya in 9:30.59. Anthony Masayesva (Sr., Tuba City) was in fourth through the final laps but Xiaija Schuldies (Sr., Page) snuck up behind him and caught him at the tape finishing 4th in 9:34.28 to Maayesva in 9:34.79.

Division 3 Field Event Winners
Giancarlo Narvarte (So., Lee Williams) jumped 6-6 in the high jump for the win. Everett Lunt (Sr., Snowflake) finished 2nd in 6-04 with Michael Williams (So., Shadow Ridge) in 3rd with at jump of 6-2, followed by Spencer Smith (Sr., Show Low) jumping 6-2 for 4th.
Trista Smith (So., Fountain Hills) jump 11-00 in the pole vault for 1st. Stephanie Crawford (Jr., Round Valley) jumped 10-6 for 2nd and Naomi Schimmel (Sr., Blue Ridge) jumped 10-6 for 3rd.
In the boys long jump, Jordan Banister (Jr., Buckeye) jumped 22-07.25 to win. Rico Tipton (So., Shadow Ridge) was a close 2nd with a jump of 22-02.75 and Ryan Rodriguez (Sr., Seton Catholic) was 3rd with a jump of 22-00.75.
Sydney Olson (So., Snowflake) won the girls triple jump with a jump of 36-09.00. Tristen Vaughn (Sr., St. Mary’s) finished 2nd with a 34-03.50 followed by Elizabeth Holter (Fr., Seton Catholic) with 33-09.25.
Heather Calandra (Sr., Mingus) through the shot put 44-6.25 for the best throw so far across all divisions putting her at the #2 spot on the Arizona leaderboard. Viola Logston (Jr., Camp Verde) placed 2nd with a 38-00.25 followed by Gabriella Simon (Sr., Red Rock) with a 37-04.75.
Drake DeYonge (Palo Verde) threw the discus 146-00 for the win. Chris Lessard (Sr., Shadow Ridge) finished 2nd with a 138.07 and Joshua Manuel (So., Benson) placed 3rd in 132-05.
Division 4 Top Prelim Times
Michael Massadeh (Sr., Arizona Lutheran) 15.39 in the 110 hurdles. Connor Woltz (So., Tempe Prep) hit the hurdles and almost fell but managed to stay upright and recovered quickly (while running sideways) to finish the 2nd heat in 2nd.
Ashley Harrison (Jr., Valley Christian) 15.59 in the 100 hurdles.
Alex Akiu (Jr., Tempe Prep) 11.38 in the 100 dash.

Division 4 Field Event Winners
Tyler Jones (Jr., Grand Canyon) jumped 6-4 in the boys high jump. Randall Schindler (Sr., Mogollon) jumped 6-00 for 2nd.
Stephanie Boulder (Sr., St. Gregory) jumped 11-00 in the pole vault for the win. Lea Galyean (Sr., Bisbee) jumped 10-6 for 2nd.
In the boys pole vault Sherod Bride (Jr., St. Johns) jumped 13-6 for the win with Tony Chavez (So., Bisbee) taking 2nd with 13-00.
Gabe Galvin (So., Arizona Lutheran) jumped 21-08.25 in the long jump followed by Frankie Alvarado (So., Joy Christian) who jumped 21-07.75 for 2nd.
In the girls triple jump Ashley Harrison (Jr., Valley Christian) jumped 35-11.75 for the win. Catherine Bryant (Jr., Tempe Prep) jumped 34-8 for 2nd followed by teammate Camille Zimmerman (Sr) who jumped 34-5 for 3rd.
Daken Hawkins (Sr., Pima) won the discus with a 149-10 throw. Teammate Lane Lunt (Jr) finished 2nd with a throw of 143-06. Weston Wright a freshman from Scottsdale Prep finished 3rd with a 135-04.
Miranda Jackson (Sr., St. Augustin) won the shot put with a toss of 34-9.75. 2nd place went to Alia Lemm (Sr., Scottsdale Prep) with a 33-07.00 followed by Madison Fields (Sr., Joseph City) with a 33-05.50.
