AZ 2014 Cross Country Watch List - Tyler Day

 

 

With the 2014 cross country season just around the corner it's time to start our "Watch List" highlighting the top returners.  Mesquite senior Tyler Day is our next Watch List athlete.

As the season starts we will continue to add athletes to the list.

When did you get started as a running:

I got started by being bored one day in 6th grade and I decided to run around the playground until the bell rang. Each day I added more laps around the playground until it became easy for me to do double digits. I got started competitively in 7th grade.

 

Which meets will you be running this year?

I will be running Peaks, Prescott Invite, Ojo Rojo, Conley. Twilight, City, Sectionals, and State.

 

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?  What do you look forward to the most?

My goals for the upcoming season are to get into the low 15 range and become Division 1 State Champ. I look forward to is having a fun and injury free season.

How is your summer training going?  Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My training is going good. One of my favorite workouts is the dice game. Its when u roll a big dice and what number you roll on you go do that workout. I have been running 25-35 miles per week.

 

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

I don’t really cross train. But after work outs I swim in my pool and ride my bike from place. Out team does some weights but not much.

 

Do you follow any kind of nutrition program or watch what you eat?

I don’t have a nutrition progam. I watch what I eat  the best I can.

 

Have you ever been injured?

I never been injured. The worst I had from running is the dredded shin splints.

 

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

My favorite memory of cross country is getting 5th last year at state and winning large school varsity race at Twilight as a sophomore.

What is the best part of running?

The best part about running is meeting people who enjoys this sport and feeling good about making my goals.

 

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

The accomplishments that stand out are the three records I have at my school. I train 100% and to be able to achieve the record that you have been chasing for years is the greatest accomplishment.

 

When you are not running what do you like to do?

 When I'm not running I like to jam on the guitar or saxophone and collect baseball cards.

 

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

They push me to strive for success and give me confidence when I need it the most. They help me hit my goals and beyond.

 

Shout outs?

 I like to shout out to my family and friends for supporting me in this crazy sport. Without them I would not be where I am today.
