AZ 2014 Cross Country Watch List - Lucky Schreiner

 

With the 2014 cross country season just around the corner it's time to start our "Watch List" highlighting the top returners.  Senior Lucky Schreiner from Camp Verde is our next Watch List athlete.

As the season starts we will continue to add athletes to the list.

When did you get started as a runner:

I got started as a runner in 7th grade after watching my oldest brother run in middle and high school. Seeing him run really got me excited about the sport.

Which meets will you be running this year?

I will be running the Chandler, Doug Conley, Mt. Carmel, Twilight, Sectional, and State meets. 

 

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?  What do you look forward to the most?

I want to continue to PR and compete on a national level more. 

 

How is your summer training going?  Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My summer training went well. I was able to lay down a solid base of mileage. I really like these 200m and 400m uphill repeats that I run at a nearby park. I try to get in a healthy amount of miles per week in the summer. 

 

Do you follow any kind of nutrition program or watch what you eat?

I do not follow a nutrition plan but like most people I try to cut the junk food and soda out. I will treat myself every once in a while though.

 

Have you ever been injured?

I have small injuries here and there that I might take a day or two off for.

 

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

Being able to travel to the Arcadia meet in California and run against top competition was a really great experience for me. Especially seeing other Arizona runners there compete really well. 

 

What is the best part of running?

The best part of running is the moment before the gun goes off and you have adrenaline pumping and you can see hundreds of runners lined up with you. 

 

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

The accomplishment that stands out most was getting 2nd at XC State last year. That moment still haunts me today. 

 

When you are not running what do you like to do?

I like watching Netflix, hang out with my friends, and I actually like to golf a lot. 

 

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

My coaches have encouraged me and given me the confidence to be the runner that I am right now. They help me everyday to be better and I can't thank them enough.
