AZ 2014 Cross Country Watch List - Marcus Wheeler

 

Senior Marcus Wheeler from Corona del Sol is our next Watch List athlete.

As the season starts we will continue to add athletes to the list.

When did you get started as a runner:

I did cross country as a joke in 8th grade. I broke our school mile record so the coach kinda made me do it. I ended up winning the Conference championship.

 

Which meets will you be running this year?

I will be running Chandler invite, Ojo Rojo (unfortunately) ,Doug Conley, Twilight, Tempe city, sectionals and state.

 

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?  What do you look forward to the most?

Win state.  And im looking forward to that ice cold Gatorade after the race and some bagels.

 

How is your summer training going?  Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My summer training has been great. I think my favorite workout as of now mile repeats. And my coach and I are really mileage oriented. I run as much as I seem fit so about 45-50 miles a week.

 

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

Currently a weekend warrior at lifetime fitness playing basketball so that counts

 

Have you ever been injured?

 I avoid injury really well by not over training and doing some yoga. 

 

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

I think my favorite memory in xc has to be Doug Conley race last year. 

 

What is the best part of running?

Winning and girls

 

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

Beating Nate Rodriguez in a warm up run last year at practice. 

 

When you are not running what do you like to do?

 I really like hanging out with my friends and acting funny. Also being a weekend dunkball champion.

 

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

Coach Pat Smith has done nothing but improve my performance ever since I got here to Corona. Not only as a runner, but as a person.

I am guessing this is the most school appropriate part of this questionnaire so for now its Lose yourself to Dance by Daft punk. But music to run to I listen to that sweet country music. SIKE! I listen to my boy Ludwig van Beethoven on long runs and other classical music artists. I’m being serious.
