Best time in a 5K and a 3 Mile Race:

When did you get started as a runner:

I started running in first grade at our elementary school.

Which meets will you be running this year?

Generally our meets are the same every year; starting with Hopi Meet, then Peaks Invitational, Twilight, Doug Conley, Lake Powell, Bud Davis, Holbrook, Sectionals, and Division III State Meet….these are the most important races we compete in during the season.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?  What do you look forward to the most?

Individual goal is to run a time under 15:40 at the State Meet and of course, repeat as State Champions for our division.  I look for to competing at Twilight and State as they seem to bring out the best in me during competition.

How is your summer training going?  Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My summer training went well, mostly base mileage with little “workouts” to speak of. I probably ran over 250 miles during the summer, trying not to keep my mileage in line with my training age, I have one more year of running left in high school.

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

I didn’t do much cross training, just some core body workouts to have a stronger core area which will help me in races.

Do you follow any kind of nutrition program or watch what you eat?

The main goal I had for myself was not to drink soda all summer, and it was a success.  I started to eat more healthy, staying away from junk food.

Have you ever been injured?

I twisted my ankle last year, and that’s the only injury that I had, which came from playing basketball.  I’m going to commit to running year round this year.

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

My favorite race is the Twilight Meet, it’s great competition that we run against, not only Arizona schools, but also out of state teams.  I always run my fastest time there as it’s flat and fast.

The best memory I’ll cherish is winning the State Meet last year, we had a great team, but a greater set of brotherhood that I'll always remember.

What is the best part of running?

The enjoyment of running that it will keep me healthy and hopefully will someday help me obtain a scholarship to run in college.

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

Winning the State Championship with my teammates, who are my brothers forever, was great because we had 6 of our runners under 17:00 and our 7th man was only a few seconds past the 17:00 mark.

When you are not running what do you like to do?

I like to play basketball, ride my ATV, just lay around and be lazy relaxing, and finally I like to work on vehicles for a hobby.

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

Coach has taught me some things that will make me a better runner and knows when to push me and when to keep it easy.  Coach knows what he is doing and I always listen to what he says about our training plan and workouts.

Shout outs?

Shout-out to my family who are always at every one of our cross country meets.   They encourage me and always cheer me on as well as the team.  They support me in every way that pertains to running and even when I’m not running in races.

Kind of shoes you train in?

Nike Freerun - my racing flats are Nike as well.

Flat course or hills?

Definitely flat course because I get to run a fast time...we train on hills all the time up north.

Facebook or Twitter?

I don't have either anymore - it was taking too much of my personal time.

Hot or cold weather?

I say hot weather because cold weather is not my best time to run in.

Favorite song at the moment?

"My Addiction" by We The Innocent.
