Pre Season All State Boys Team

Carlos Villarreal established himself as a national level runner during cross country, he hopes to do the same during track. If he can, Billy Orman's state 1600m is in serious jeopardy.

Arizona Milesplit has named Carlos Villarreal as preseason athlete, though like with the girls it was a very tough decision since there were several good options.

This past fall Carlos burst onto the national scene. At one point he had the fastest 5K time in the country. The scary part? He is even better at track. His specialty is the 1600m. Carlos intends to race a healthy dose of mile races this spring in order to prepare him for life at the University of Arizona. Carlos is a classy athlete and doesn't let this fame get to his head, " I try not to think about that too much mainly because everything is still a shock to me," he explained, "I had the opportunity to run at national races and they were really humbling and awesome experiences."

As the avid Arizona track fan knows, in addition to mixing it up with the nation's best Carlos is looking to take down the state record in the mile this spring. " It crosses my mind here and there," admits Carlos but his focus seems to be on competing, "Coach Schadler has always told us to go out there and just run and compete. If you compete, the times will take care of themselves. This season I'm just going out there run, compete and just hope for the best."

Speaking of focusing on the right things Carlos is the most recognizable member of the defending state champion teams. Even though he will be worrying about his times, he knows his first priority is with the team. "I'm going to try my best to help out my team at state and I know my teammates will do the same.
