How to Upload a Photo Albumn

You have a great set of meet photos and want to share them. Now what do you do?

Note: This article, and all other articles assume a couple of things. They assume that you have established a username (registered) on the system and that you are logged in. If you haven't done that yet, go ahead and do it now. In addition, some of the functionalities assume that you are a MileSplit Insider. If you are not an Insider already, you can become one here.

Adding meet photos does not require Insider access, but, yes, you do have to be a registered user, and you do have to be logged in to upload photos.

Before you're ready to upload photos, however, you'll need to let your computer do some work on your end first. You'll want to be familiar with doing a batch process on whatever photo editing software you use.

Start by identifying and removing photos you don't want to appear in an online album. Maybe these are personal in nature, out-of-focus, and whatever other reason you might have for not including them. Get all the photos you do want to post in a single folder and then batch resize them (you can also adjust contrast and sharpen at this point, too, if you wish, but beware of oversharpening).

With all your resized photos in a single folder, you'll now want to subdivide this folder into subfolders, usually by event. If you only have a small number of photos, you may not need to go to subfolders, but larger collections of photos should be subdivided so it's easier for users to find the pictures they want to see.

Once you have all your photos into subfolders that are labeled by event name, you are ready to upload.

Log in to MileSplit and find the meet page of the meet for which you want to upload photos. Click on the Add Your Photos bar on the meet page. This will bring up a dialog box. You don't need to change any of the default settings here (you can if you like, however), but you do need to select a cover photo for the album. Select a cover photo from one of your resized photos as an original full-sized file will be too large to load.

Next, click on the Create Album button.

You are almost done at this point. All you need to do now is identify and select the folder that contains all of your subfolders of photos from the meet. Once the images in those folders are showing in a list, click the button to start uploading. Depending on the size of your collection and the speed of your internet connection, this could take several seconds to several minutes. You can stop the process midway and resume later, but it's generally easiest to leave the photos uploading all at once and take a break from your computer for a while.

Your photos will begin being accessible on the site as they are uploading.
