Championship event highlights of Maryland athletes and relays from Friday and Saturday championships at the 2017 New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Greensboro, North Carolina. More to come with day 3 competition on Sunday as well as highlights from the emerging elite and freshmen division races.

Championship Girls Highlights

The Bullis girls were simply amazing in the championship 4x200 meter relay to defeat the likes of national powerhouses Miami Northwestern, Western Branch, and Nansemond River to win the national title in the event with a time of 1:35.63.

More impressive might have been the fact that their "B" team earned All-American honors as well just behind those loaded national programs in fifth place with a time of 1:38.29 in an incredible display of the team's depth of speed. Bullis also earned All-American honors earlier in the meet in the swedish relay (5th, 2:08.12) CH Flowers just missed out on the All-American 4x200 podium in seventh place at 1:39.43.

In the championship girls 100 meter dash finals, Ashley Seymour of the Bullis School was able to advance thru the rounds to run the state's second fastest time of the year in a 11.48 clocking for 6th place and All-American honors.

Huntingtown's Harleigh White had leaped for a state leading and personal best triple jump mark of 41'4" at the state meet last month. She added another All-American honor to her final list of high school accolades with a 5th place leap of 41'0.50" in the triple jump at New Balance Nationals.

Winston Churchill's Julia Reicin ran one of the fastest girls 2K steeplechase times in state history with a 9th place effort of 7:05.33 down in Greensboro.

Hereford's Kelly Wesolowski had a fantastic close to her high school career running a swift new personal best in the 5K run with a 7th place finish of 17:29 as she nearly earned All-American honors from the slow section of the event.

Championship Boys Highlights

The Oxon Hill boys have throw down some impressive times in the relays this weekend in Greensboro. The 3A powerhouse program from PG County kicked off their weekend earning their first of 4 All-American relays by taking 5th in the 1000 meter swedish relay with a time of 1:54.18. Gary Ross split 46.92 on the 400 meter anchor leg. Also day one events included their shuttle hurdles relay team earning national runner-up honors with a final time of 57.18 in the 4x110 hurdles event.

Next their 1600 meter sprint medley relay earned All-American honors with a third place finish and likely state record performance of 3:21.31 with a 1:50 anchor leg 800 meter split by Ross. Another 1:50 split by Ross helped them secure more All-American medals in the championship boys 4x800 meter relay with a fifth place time of 7:42.86, which was just off their 7:40 state record performance from Penn Relays earlier this season.

Parkdale's Tyrone Bryan finished fourth for All-American honors in the championship boys 110 meter hurdles finals with a personal best and state leading clocking of 13.78. Bryan is the first hurdler from Maryland to break 14 seconds this season.

A pair of Maryland boys earned All-American honors in the two mile run at New Balance Nationals with Poolesville's Ryan Lockett grabbing third place in a time of 9:21.79 and McDonogh School's Dalton Hengst in sixth place with a time of 9:22.76. Very humid and hot conditions slowed down times in the event.
