 Desert Classic Invitational


Girls

 

 

Shaylah Simpson (Jr., Desert Vista)  vaulted late into the night to a new PR of 12-3.  

 

Mariah Bowers (Sr., Queen Creek; pictured  right) won both the 200 meter dash (26.94) and the 400 meter dash (59.94) and was the only runner to run under 1 minute.

 

Ashley Workman (Jr., Queen Creek) also won three events in the 800 (2:23.48) meter run,  the 1600 Meter run (5:23.60) and the 3200 meter run (11:47.77)

 

Breanna Leslie (Sr., Valley Christian; pictured above on right) also took home a first in both hurdles events.  In the 100 hurdles Leslie was two seconds faster  (15.76) than the 2nd place finisher and ran 46.92 in the 300 meter hurdles.

 

High Jumper Sierra Meyer (Sr., Gilbert) jumped 5-5 winning the event.

 

Maddie Nossek, (Jr., Payson) reached a new PR after winning the Long Jump with a jump of 17-01.00.

 

Jade Swayne (Sr., Desert Vista) jumped 34-6 in the triple jump beating second place Sarah Stenhouse (Red Mountain) by 5 inches.

 

Mimi Onwo (Jr., Desert Vista) reached a new PR in the shot put of 36-4 winning the event by almost a foot.

 

Courtney Ho (Red Mountain) continues to improve each meet.  Courtney threw the discus 104-2 besting her 2008 State Meet distance by 7 feet.  

 

 

Boys

 

Derek Molina (Sr., Red Mountain) won the 100 meter dash in 11:14

 

Josh Rushing (Mesquite) won the 200 meter dash in 22.47

 

Cody Patterson (Sr., Ironwood Ridge) won the 400 meter dash in 50.89

 

Mesa Mountain View senior D.J. Johnson (pictured left) settled in behind the leaders and then broke out into a sprint at the 100 mark to win the 800 in 1:56.72.

 

Steve Magnuson (Jr., Ironwood Ridge) and Sherod Hardt (Jr., Queen Creek) battled for the win down the final 100 stretch.  Magnuson edged Hardt 4:19.29 to 4:19.43.  Hardt went on to win the 3200 in 9:43.92 and finished 3rd in the 800 in 1:59.27.  Magnuson ran the 1st led of the 4 x 800 earlier in the day to help his Ironwood Ridge team win the event.

 

Aaron Allen (Sr., Mesa Mt. View) had a nice double in the hurdles winning the 110 meter hurdles in 14.81 and the 300 meter hurdles in 40.08.

 

Matt Yalung (Jr., Desert Vista) had a PR of 6-4 in the high jump last week at the Aztec I

nvite.  Yalung place first in the high jum

p by matching his PR of 6-4.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ryan Kunce (Sr., Desert Vista; pictured right) vaulted to 15-00 feet in the Pole Vault.  Teammate Ian Sankey (Sr., Desert Vista) took second at 14-00.

 

Donovant Grant (Sr., Marana Mt. View) finished first in the long jump (21-6) by out jumping Young Tanner (So., Gilbert) 21-2 (new PR).  Grant finished third in the triple jump. 

 

Mike Kivi (Sr., Marana) PR'd (45-06.00) in the triple jump and out jumped second place finisher Craig Pearson (Mesa Mtn. View) 44-02.75

 

The shot put event was won by Cody Roberts (Basha).  Roberts distance of 49-11was a new PR.  

 

Alex Smyth (Sr., Fountain Hills) threw the discus 18 feet farther than second place 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gatorade Invitational

 

The following athletes set new records at the Gatorade Invitational

 

Girls 

 

Senior Taylor Stapley (pictured right)  from Sinagua won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.25 and also set a new record of 5-6 in the High Jump.

 

Jasmin Pratt (Estrella Foothills) finished the 100 meter dash in 12.66

 

Alex Myers  (Sr., Sinagua) led the 1600 meter run the entire race and finished in 5:18.06

 

Kalina Lowe (Sr., Mountain Ridge) ran a 1:01.69 winnig the 400 meter dash.

 

Chloe Nowell (Millennium) jumped to a new record of 34-9 in the triple jump.

 

Deer Valley junior Leigha Graziano threw the discus in 126-10 feet and the shot put 39-07 feet for new records.

 

 

 

Boys

 

Brian Shrader (Jr., Sinagua, pictured left) won the 1600 meter run by 16 seconds setting a new record of 4:18.65.

 

Kyle Short (Sr., Cactus Shadow) was the only runner to break 10 minutes in the 3200 running to a time of 9:57.40.

 

Michael Bolligar (Sr., Sunrise Mountain) jumped 6-06 feet for the win in the high jump.

 

Dylan Austin (Sr., Moon Valley) had a huge PR in the Pole Vault by vaulting 15-6 feet, setting a new meet record.
