Sun Angel Classic Yields State Leads In Tempe

The Sun Angel Classic high school events were held on Thursday and Saturday, beginning with finals for field events as well as the finals for 300-meter Hurdles and 3200 meters.
Meet records were demolished in the hurdles, beginning with Myreanna Bebe (Queen Creek, Jr.) took first in the Girls High Hurdles with a new PR and meet record of 14.17. Later that afternoon, Ma'Kayla Dickerson (Fairfax, Jr.) won the low hurdles in 42.70 for an AZ no. 2 performance as well as a new meet record. Finally James Smith (Westwood, Sr.) followed in the Intermediates to dominate in 37.52, before heading off to Arcadia.
In the 1600-meter prelims, Highland's Caroline McLeskey and Leo Daschbach ran the top times of the afternoon with 5:05.93 and 4:27.22 respectively to advance into the finals. Later that night, Caroline dominated the 3200m run in 10:59 for a 14 second victory. Then in the boys' race, Jacob Lewis (Boulder Creek, Sr.) led from the front with Anthony Haren (Perry, Sr.) and Daschbach switching back and forth with the intent of overtaking Lewis. Jacob won the race in 9:28.95 only a tenth of a second off the meet record, Leo finished 2nd in 9:29 just behind Lewis with Haren in tow for 3rd in a new school record.

Tyson Jones (Desert Edge, Sr.) threw meet records for victories in both the Shot (67-9.25) and Disc (179-5) while Carlan Naisant (Marcos De Niza, Sr.) dominated the Javelin with a mark of 194. Alaina Diggs (Millennium, Jr.) won the Girls' Shot-Put competition with a lifetime-best of 42-5, her first registered mark over 42'.
Kenashalee Kerr (Queen Creek, Jr.) jumped a 2 ½ inch PR in the Triple Jump which now ranks her 5th in the State. Meanwhile Trayvion White-Austin (Sahuaro, Jr.) jumped 22-8.25 to win the Long Jump, after securing a spot in the finals of the 100m with the top time of the day. Tim Ellis (Valley Vista, Jr.) and Hayley Rayburn (Platte Canyon, Sr.) won the boys and girls pole vault competition with respective vaults of 14-6 and 12-3.
