'Oregon Drill' Fartlek With Highland Hawks

A big favorite of Coach Dave Montgomery's schedule is the 'Oregon Drill', which is a continuous fartlek moving from training pace, then to tempo pace, and finally to closing race pace before jogging back to the start. According to 'Monty' was used by Oregon's 'golden age' runners to get into shape. The Highland Hawks opened their season last Saturday at the King of the Mountain Invitational with the boys taking the victory with 23 points and the girls finishing in 3rd place with 58 points. Their top two runners, Leo Daschbach (Jr.) and Caroline McLeskey (Jr.) also picked up their first individual victories of the season on Saturday.
