What are your goals for the upcoming season:

This season, my goal is to do everything right, inside and outside of practice. As Coach Messer always says, “honor the process”, I want to run for my teammates and do everything right, and by doing this, be the best that I can possibly be!

How is your summer training going?   Your favorite workout?  What kind of summer mileage do you run?

Training this summer went very well! Despite the heat and humidity, the team and I were able to toughen up and run strong when we needed to, and also relax on certain days as well. My favorite workout is running hills. I feel that it is my biggest weakness, but we have been running a lot of hills this summer and I’m getting stronger. Along with hills, we ran a lot of volume, but kept the runs controlled and didn’t push ourselves too hard.

How long have you been running and how did you get started:

I started running with my dad when I was in the sixth grade. After that, I joined the cross country team at my middle school where I made many great friends and really started to enjoy running!

Will you be competing out of State this season?  If so, when and where?

Yes, the team and I will be traveling to California in October to compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational. We also hope to travel to Oregon in December for Nike Cross Nationals.

What are your favorite courses and the toughest courses to run in State and out of State.

I love the Desert Twilight XC Festival Invitational! Its fun because the course is fast and flat and the race takes place at night! Last year, I ran in the Doug Conley Invitational. The rolling hills throughout the entire course make it one of toughest races in Arizona! Another tough course is at the Mt. SAC Invitational in California. The course consists of three different hills. One hill has switchbacks, another is short and steep, and the last is long with a somewhat gradual incline.

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

One of my favorite memories so far is the whole experience of cross country camp. We drive up to Flagstaff and spend a few days running and hanging out with everyone. This summer, we played “capture the flag” in the forest at dusk. At times, it brought out a competitive side in everyone, but we laughed so hard and had a really good time.

When you are not running what do you like to do?

When I’m not running, I’m either doing homework (sadly), listening to music,  or hanging out with my friends!

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

I cross train about twice a week, usually on the elliptical or stationary bike, so that I can get in a little more training while staying off my feet.

Do you think you would like to run competitively after high school?

Yes, I definitely would like to run competitively in college if I have the opportunity!

What were your favorite Olympic sports and did they inspire you in any way?

I really enjoyed watch the men’s 10,000 meters when Mo Farah and Galen Rupp crossed the finish line one after the other. Seeing their teamwork and knowing that they had trained together for months before the Olympics made watching that race so inspiring.
