How is your summer training going?   Your favorite workout?  What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My summer training went great! I changed it up a little from last year and focused less on speed work and more on building a strong base for the season. This summer I was also lucky enough to attend a distance camp at the University of Oregon where I met some amazing runners and had some great training! My favorite workout has been hill repeats at a park near my house. At the beginning of summer I hated Wednesday hill days but I have really grown to love them! I run about 40 miles a week and ran just over 500 miles this summer.

How long have you been running and how did you get started:

I have been running track since 7th grade and cross country since 8th grade. I first tried running in 6th grade when I tried out for my middle school track team in Virginia as a sprinter (even though my parents told me I was being a fool and should run distance instead) and got cut from the team. After moving to Arizona I tried distance running instead and I have loved it ever since!

Will you be competing out of State this season?  If so, when and where?

My team will not be competing out of State this season but I may run at Footlocker West Regionals in California.

What are your favorite courses and the toughest courses to run in State and out of State.

The toughest course in State would definitely be Conley because there are so many steep hills. My favorite is the course at Tumbleweed Park. It's very flat and my team races there three or four times a year so I know it really well!

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

My favorite cross country race was the Padre Invitational my sophomore year. It was the first invitational I had ever won and it gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season!

When you are not running what do you like to do?

Eat, sleep, do homework (unfortunately), and buy matching Nike running clothes

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

I do different strength and core workouts everyday.

Do you think you would like to run competitively after high school?

My goal is to run competitively at a Division I or Division III college after high school.

What were your favorite Olympic sports and did they inspire you in any way?

My favorite Olympic sports were swimming, gymnastics, and track. The athletes were all so dedicated and focused on their goals. They showed that if you work hard enough you can accomplish anything!
