Desert Twilight Virtual Championships Races Preview

While the Sweepstakes race will cap off the night with some major performances, the Championships races are not to be swept aside with several kids intent on chasing PRs.

Jacob Lewis (Boulder Creek, Sr.) is the top returner from last years' meet and currently holds the fastest time of the field. He'll have company from Ethan Mychajlonka (Basha, Sr.) who's already broken 16 minutes at both Ojo Rojo and Doug Conley, finishing just behind Lewis in both. Matthew Bradley (Prescott, Sr.) will also come down to sea level to grind once more after crushing his PR by over a minute at Doug Conley last week.

On the Girls side of Championships, Maya Smith will be on the hunt for her second consecutive Desert Twilight title. She'll have some close competition from Chinle Junior Alisia Honyumptewa who won the Shiprock Invitational two weeks ago and placed 7th in the Elite race at Conley. Prescott's Makenna Bray (So.) has also stepped it up big for the Badgers with a sub-19 performance at Conley. Bishop Gorman rookie Emilia Puskas (Fr.) out of Nevada could also surprise people in the Championships race. Puskas has 2:21.69 speed for 800 meters and took 5th in the Large School 3-Mile race at Larry Burgess.
