                    The Decision

Hello everybody hope things are going well and training is coming along great. As the word spreads out about what school I picked, its finally official.  I will be running for Arizona State University! I looked at a lot of very good programs such as the University of Texas, University of Oregon, Oklahoma State University, University of Colorado and Arizona State University. Only one school stood out as the best for me.

The reason I picked ASU was because it was the right fit for me in all aspects, I followed my gut instinct in the end. Every recruit is different when they look at schools. Some may be looking for the best academics, some may be looking for the best team in the country and some may be looking for the best facilities. I looked at all those aspects but the most important thing was finding a program that I felt would make me happy for the next 4 to 5 years and beyond.

I also clicked very well with Coach Luis Quintana and Coach Greg Kraft.  Coach Quintana has the same personality as my current coach (Kris Norton) which will make a nice transition going into college. The team was pretty awesome. I’m really excited to be joining the group next year!  I’m excited to stay really close to home to maintain a strong support system. My support system means a lot to me and it really impacts my training and my motivation to do well in my running and in school.

I want to help inspire athletes and let them know that success can be achieved at ASU, just like the other Elite Schools. Regardless where I go “I will work hard to get the job done”. if I am able to do it in Yuma AZ then I can do it anywhere. I am also happy to stay in this state that has had many successful runners in the past.  I learned trough this process that many of the elite runners have stayed in their home state for college and have had great success. Runners like Leo Manzano (Texas), Galen Rupp (Oregon), Steve Prefontain (Oregon) and Jim Ryan (Kansas). I think part of the reason they were successful was that they were able to stay close to their familiar surroundings and not mess with the formula to success that got them there. They were able to represent and get support from their home state, and I wish do the same here in Arizona.

I have enjoyed the recruiting process very much. I have met great people, great coaches, and even Olympians. I am glad to have my decision and I want to thank everybody for supporting me -  including my family , coaches and friends.  This year will be exciting and  I look forward to all the new beginnings.  I am proud to become a Sun Devil and continue to represent Arizona!

    Take care everyone
