When did you first get involved with track and field?  How long have you been pole vaulting:

I first got involved with Track and Field when I was 13. I have been pole vaulting for 6 years.

What is a typical training week like for you?

A typical training week consists of 2 jump days followed by a running workout and lifting weights, a day of rest and a competition.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?

My goals for this track season aren't necessarily to jump really high.  My goal is to continually improve my technique, because then the big heights will just happen.

How do you prepare yourself mentally for a race?  Do you have any superstitions?

I do not have any superstitions. I mentally prepare for a competition by blocking out the other vaulters and focusing on the key points of my vault that I need to fix.

What does the rest of your season look like and will you be competing in any out of state track meets during the season or post high school season?

My High School Track is coming to a fast conclusion but I hope to compete in some out of state regional and nation meets over the summer.

What message would you tell younger runners who aspire to be at the top?

For the younger generation, I can only say that if you really want to be good, get ready to work for it. A lot.

If you had to attribute your success to one thing, what would it be?

If I had to attribute my success to one thing, it would be my mentallity when it comes to training.  There is always someone who is better, faster, and stronger.  That motivates me to work harder.

Do you have role models or mentors in track and field?

My mentors and role models in Track and Field are my high school coach, Bill Rogers, and my club coach, Nick Hysong. Both have taught me so much and I aspire to be like them.

How many events do you compete in and which event is your favorite?

I only compete in the pole vault, so it is indeed my favorite event.

What are 3 things we don't know about you?

Most people probably don't know that I play the trombone in my school band. Before I began competing in Track and Field, I played basketball on a national level team. I also played the piano in elementary school.
