What are your goals for the upcoming season:

My goals for this season are to be a team leader and to help my team reach our maximum potential.

How is your summer training going?   Your favorite workout?  What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My training was great! I took a much different approach to my training this summer. I ran about 40-55 miles a week, but I ran all of my mileage at sub-7 minute pace. My favorite workout is probably 1 mile repeats because, let’s be honest, running slow is no fun!

How long have you been running and how did you get started:

I always thought I hated running, but really I hated a respiratory condition I have, called Asthma. It took years of coping with my condition before I was finally able to manage my symptoms and it was then that I learned to love running. I started running in 8th grade, but I wasn’t able to run competitively until my Junior year of high school.

Which meets will you be running this year?

This cross country season I will be running at Mt. Carmel, Doug Conley, Desert Twilight, Rattler, Sectionals and hopefully State. My post-season races consist of Nike Regionals, Footlocker Regionals and West Zone Indoor Championships (Flagstaff)

What are your favorite and toughest courses to run in State and out of State?

My favorite course is Mt. Carmel because it is held in beautiful San Diego and it is a very competitive race. The toughest course I have ran is probably Mt. SAC because of the mental strain that comes with its sharp inclines and declines. It is extremely difficult to stay in rhythm.

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

My favorite cross country memory is running what we calle the “Milk Mile” with my teammates and having a great time (even though I couldn’t feel my belly).

What do you look forward to the most this season?

I look forward to being a part of the running community, not only at Mountain View, but in the whole Tucson community. I hope to contribute to the community as more than just a runner, but a team leader.

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

I’ve learned that team accomplishments are much more enjoyable than individual accomplishments, and there is nothing more satisfying then breaking a school record. I was the lead leg on our 4x800m relay team during the 2013 track and field championships, and I was blessed to have three other teammates that performed as well as they did in our race! We now hold the Mountain View High School record for the 4x800m relay at 8:02.14!! Long live the Black Pack!

When you are not running what do you like to do?

Outside of running, I enjoy playing the guitar, falling on my longboard, listing to music, and documenting my life through pictures (Instagram: @boubion).

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

Yes, while I run in the mornings, my evenings are totally devoted to a variety of strength training, core, and flexibility workouts.  However, the Black Pack calls it “torture.”

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

My coaches are a huge influence. They’ve nurtured from the ground and back to health after hill repeats; they’ve told me to “stop being a sissy girl”-Mrs. Dahl; and they’ve consistently ignored my witty remarks. In all honesty, I wouldn’t be the runner I am today if it wasn’t for their hard-work, wisdom, and dedication. Their commitment to the program is beyond recognition.

Are you considering running in college?

Shout-Outs?

Shout out to my papa for always giving me a tire to follow on all of what would have been “lonely miles”; to The University of Arizona Medical Center for helping me control my asthma; to all the passing cars that yelled “Run Forrest, Run!”; and to everyone who has supported me and helped me get to where I am today.

Quick Six:

Favorite Pre-race Meal?

Pancakes (preferably with bananas, blueberries, and oats) and a side of nutella toast.

Kind of shoes you train in?

Favorite song?

6:00 AM
