Top Alumni - Tonn 6th, Montoya 20th at NCAA DI West Regionals

 

Former Xavier Alumna, Jessica Tonn - now running at Stanford, finished 6th at the NCAA DI West Regionals in Sacramento this morning with a time of 19:31.  Tonn averaged 5:14 per mile over the 6K course finishing 2nd for the team behind 3rd place finisher Aisling Cuffe. 

The University of Arizona won the West Regionals with 84 points followed by Stanford with 94 points and Oregon with 120 points.

Bernie Montoya (Cibola, 2013) was the top Arizona Alumnus finishing the 10K race in 30:13 to lead the ASU team to a 5th place finish.  Montoya's average mile time was 4:52 putting him in the 20th spot individually and the 19th for team placement.   Garrett Baker-Slama (Corona del Sol, 2010) was the 4th runner for ASU finishing in 40th place (39th for team) with a time of 30:42.   Daniel Wong (Canyon del Oro, 2012) finshed 63rd in 31:15.   Jenna Maak (Desert Vista, 2013) finished 6th for the ASU girls with a time of 21:02 for 7th place.

The Stanford boys came from behind to beat Oregon 53 - 64.  ASU finished 5th with 184 points.  The ASU women finished 6th with 175 points.

Tonn will be heading to Nationals with her team next weekend.  ASU boys will have to wait and see if they get an "At Large" bid.
