Former Canyon del Oro runner - Gone too soon.

University of Arizona hurdler and 2011 Canyon del Oro graduate Lezo Urreiztieta passed away Thursday from complications following brain surgery.

Urreiztieta was the 2011 division 2 State Champion in the the 110 meter hurdles (photo above right) helping his team to a 2nd place finish. He also holds the school record in the event.

He was named to the first team all-region both his prep junior and senior years.
 
As a hurdler at the University of Arizona Urreiztieta he was named to the Pac-12 All Academic Second Team in 2013.

“We send our sincerest sympathies and deepest prayers to the family and friends of Lezo Urreiztieta,” Athletics Director Greg Byrne said in a press release. “The unfortunate passing of someone so young and full of life affects us all. He was an excellent student, in addition to being a valued member of our track team and the Arizona Athletics community.”

Urreiztieta was well liked by fellow athletes and will be sorely missed.
