When did you first get involved with track and field?  How long have you been running:

I became involved in track as a sixth grader. I started out as a runner just to stay in shape for basketball. I soon realized that I hated running so I decided to try jumping and hurdling. I was not very good at jumping at all so I stopped doing that. I was decent at hurdles until one day in P.E when I cracked my head open after tripping over one. So after trying just about every event, the best fit was throws and six years later I'm still going strong.

What is a typical training week like for you?

I have weight training five days a week and seven in the morning. Then I go to school all day before track practice. After school I go to track practice for just about three hours. On the weekends I have practice on Saturday mornings and on Sundays I have a rest day.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?

I have weight training five days a week and seven in the morning. Then I go to school all day before track practice. After school I go to track practice for just about three hours. On the weekends I have practice on Saturday mornings and on Sundays I have a rest day.

How do you prepare yourself mentally for a race?  Do you have any superstitions?

I like to be mentally isolated from everything but the track meet. On the bus I usually sit by a window and listen to music. I think about everything I need to do to be successful in that meet. The only superstition I have is the way I put on the throwing shoes. I have to put them both on right to left then go back and tie them right to left.

What does your season look like and will you be competing in any out of state track meets during the season or post high school season?

I plan to be very successful at every invitational this season. After high school season I'm not sure what summer meets I'm going to do. It all depends on when I leave for college.

What message would you tell younger runners who aspire to be at the top?

Work hard. If you are good because of raw talent, someone somewhere is out there working hard and they will eventually be just as good as your raw talent.

If you had to attribute your success to one thing, what would it be?

My hard work and support group. Without the people who pushed me through every hard thing I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am today.

Do you have role models or mentors in track and field?

If you truly care about what you are doing on the track then you are my role model. You don't have to be a top track athlete, but as long as you are out there doing your thing, working hard and having fun while doing it, that's all that matters in my eyes.

How many events do you compete in and which event is your favorite?

I compete in three events. I throw the Discus, Shot Put and Hammer. I would have to say my favorite is discus.

What are 3 things we don't know about you?

  1. I have a twin sister
  2. I'm going to Auburn University
  3. I don't like the cold

Best thing your coach ever said to you?

Everyday after practice or a meet they always ask me, did you get better today? If the answers yes, you're doing something right.

Shout Outs?

If you truly care about what you are doing on the track the you are my role model. You don't have to be a top track athlete, but as long as you are out there doing your thing, working hard and having fun while doing it, that's all that matters in my eyes.
