Hello Arizona track community! From where I left you we were just about to start outdoor and I let you in on a little bit about my year so far up until the first meet! Well it’s starting to look a lot like track season and so I decided I would give the journal thing another go, so if you liked the last one maybe you’ll like this one too.

Since I left you we have opened up with a few meets and the season is officially underway. Training has gotten more rigorous and everything has started to move by so fast. With my training I have developed a very strong base and we are now starting to move into developing that base and making me faster. I have put a lot of effort into this year to make sure I eat right, train hard, and take care of my body. It is important to go hard every single rep on Monday workouts and to push yourself to the limit. It’s even more important however to take care of yourself. I have focused this year more and more on eating right and making sure to ice bath and Epsom salt bath after hard workouts, or when I’m sore to ensure that I recover well. My saint of a mother makes me a protein fruit shake every single morning and it really helps me to get my day going. If I had any advice to younger athletes it would be to train till you can’t anymore but make sure you’re taking care of your body!

Brophy’s team looks great so far, my teammate Isaiah Oliver is going to be a stud this year, everyone needs to watch out! I love training for track and field even though most times I end up throwing up! The feeling of being out there every day is amazing. However things are different than the last couple of years, I have started to realize that this is my last season in high school. It’s a little sad to think about it! But this so far has been the most fun season yet. From what I’ve seen this is shaping up to be one of the best high school track and field seasons Arizona has ever had. There have been some great times from a lot of people, I don’t know about you but I am getting really excited.  On my end of things I have run in two outdoor invitationals, Rattler Booster Invite and AMDG invitational at Brophy. I ran well in both meets and it was fun to run against my good friend Paul Lucas. The wind so far this year has been brutal in all of the meets; maybe Mother Nature is just making us work for those top AZ times.

This weekend is the Chandler Rotary, my favorite meet of all time. For some reason I always feel confident and run well on that track. Fun fact for everyone -  I opened up my first 300 hurdle race ever at the Chandler Rotary. It was pretty scary never running the 300 hurdles but then having to do it at that meet! It was terrifying. But I have always run well there and it’s the most fun meet in Arizona. This year is going to be very entertaining because the field of athletes is amazing.  Athletes from Arizona like Ky Westbrook (USC Commit), Ashlee Moore (Oregon Commit), Tevin Mayfield (CSU Commit), Michaela Crunkleton-Wilson (Stanford Commit), and myself (Miami Commit) will be battling it out with some amazing athletes from nine states. Our junior class is amazing as well with Isaiah Oliver, Paul Lucas #11 USA 100m, USA #3 200m, and Jasmine Stauffacher-Gray USA #6 in 300H. This year there are also amazing athletes from out of state, Randall Cunningham Jr (USC Commit), Arianna Washington (Oregon Commit), Ashlie Blake (UCLA Commit), and Dior Hall (USC Commit) will all be there competing as well!  If you weren’t planning on coming you should probably open up some space in your life.  Personally I will be running the 300H, 200m Dash and 4x400 meter Relay. Training has been going really well and I am looking to run a very good time in the 300H, I have never felt better in my entire life. I am pretty confident going in to the meet and I’m also excited about running the 200 against Paul Lucas, it will be fun to race him again!

So there you go, since we talked last there have been some great meets and some great times, but this is shaping up to be a historical weekend. I have never been more excited and if you’re a track and field fan you should make it out there, if you’re an athlete I wish you good luck and feel free to come up to me and talk - I love meeting new people.
