When did you first get involved with track and field?  How long have you been running:

I first started track and field in the 5th grade. I’ve always done a lot of events I just started focusing on my main events my sophomore year in high school. I started running the hurdles my freshman year in high school and I have been a sprinter since the 5th grade.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?

I hope to reach a P.R. of at least 14.5 or better in the hurdles and also to cut down my 100 meter time substantially. My ultimate goal though is just to become a better athlete all around, I want to push myself to be better than I ever have, train harder, eat cleaner, and be a great captain to my team. I want to be someone my teammates can look up to and be a great role model.

How do you prepare yourself mentally for a race?  Do you have any superstitions?

To prepare myself mentally for a race I like to listen to music. I have a race time playlist I listen with songs that inspire me to be the best. One of my favorite songs to listen to is My Time by Fabulous Ft. Jeremih.  I focus myself and just concentrate and run my races mentally, I won’t talk to anyone for about 5 minutes.

What message would you tell younger runners who aspire to be at the top?

I would tell runners who aspire to be at the top never to give up.  Work hard to get where you want to be and once your there set a new goal and don’t let up. There will be times when you get beat but let it discourage you train harder.

Do you have any role models or mentors in track and field?

One of my favorite runners I look up to is Carmelita Jeter. I would have to say my role model would be one of my coaches Michelle Skog; she has helped me get to where I am today. She ran hurdles for the University of Arizona and competed in the Olympic trials. I definitely look up to her he advice on and off the track.

How many events do you compete in and which event is your favorite?

I compete in the 100m hurdles the 300m hurdles the 100m, the 200m, the 4 by 1, and long jump. My absolute favorite would have to be the 100m hurdles; I really enjoy the relay as well.

What are 3 things we don't know about you?

  1. I am heavily involved with my school as senior class president.
  2. One of my favorite past times is singing, I sing all the time I’m no Beyoncé but I sure try haha.
  3. I have 2 brothers and one sister and we are all very athletic.

Shout outs?

I would like to give a shout out to Michelle Skog for being a great coach and even better role model. I would also like to give a shout out to Janet Harvey for getting me started with my club Team Tucson Elite; it’s made me a much better runner.
