AZ 2014 Cross Country Watch List - Kyle Havriliak

 

With the 2014 cross country season just around the corner it's time to start our "Watch List" highlighting the top returners.  Desert Vista senior Kyle Havriliak is our next Watch List athlete.

As the season starts we will continue to add athletes to the list.

Best time in a 5K and a 3 Mile Race:

5k: 16:23

3 Mile: 15:28

When did you get started as a running:

I started out running for fun in elementary school by doing a school running event in the fall during lunch called the turkey trot. I racked up over 56 miles in one season.   I started competitive running in 6th grade when I first joined my middle school's cross country team.

Which meets will you be running this year?

One race that you will see me in this year is the Woodbridge Invitational.   

 

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?  What do you look forward to the most?

I look forward to stepping up to that line and hearing the starting gun go off again. 

How is your summer training going?  Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My favorite type of work outs are track work outs and Coach C's weight lifting workouts. 

 

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

All of the above. 

 

Do you follow any kind of nutrition program or watch what you eat?

I quit drinking soda 3 and a half years ago and I try to keep up my calorie intake.

 

Have you ever been injured?

I have had my fair share of injuries.  I was injured my whole entire sophomore track season with shin splints but ran through it with the help of some KT Tape and other resources.   

 

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

So far my favorite high school cross country memory is running the Woodbridge Meet in CA.                   

What is the best part of running?

Running is a wonderful feeling inside of me that makes me feel free and at home. It's my second family, my teammates are my best friends and brothers to me.  

 

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

Our State Championship Title in 2012. 

 

When you are not running what do you like to do?

When I am not running I focus on my academics. I believe that education is the key that will open doors in your life journey. I also enjoy watching programs like Criminal Minds. 

 

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

I have the best coaches it the state of Arizona sketch that, the best coaches in this great nation.  They might be difficult at times and frustrating at other times but over all they are great guys that are looking out for my best interests. I look up to them. I love seeing them excited for me when I do phenomenal in a race. They inspire me to be the best I can be as a young student athlete and always telling me to stay humble and hungry.

I switch up. Usually whatever has a good feel and fit at the time I'm buying them.
