Week In Review - September 1 - September 8

The Arizona XC season opened this weekend with big meets across the state.  With the cancelation of the Sole Sports Invitational, many teams headed up north to Buffalo Park were Xavier College Prep dominated the summit race placing 6 runners in the top 15 for 35 points.  Page High school finished 2nd with 119 points.   Megan Reniweicki (Jr., Arcadia) won the race with the 4th fastest course time of 20:14.20.  Rolonda Jumbo from Chinle set the record of 19:29 in 2011.

On the boys side Page High School led by Sr. Jeffery Miller had the 2nd fastest time on the course with a time of 16:39.50.  The course record is held by Tuba City's Billy Orman who set the record back in 2010.  Page won the meet with 38 points placing their top 5 in the top 12.  2nd place went to Chinle with 134 points.

Down south in Tucson Bridgette Doucet (Sr., Canyon del Oro) won the Northwest Showdown with a speedy 17:42 - a minute and 1/2 faster than 2nd place Carissa Diaz (Sr., Vista Grande).  Kristin Powell (Sr., Ironwood Ridge) finished 3rd in 19:32.   Vista Grande won the event with 44 points followed by Catalina Foothills with 48 points and Ironwood Ridge with 53 points.

Salpointe Catholic senior Nathan Thomas won the boys race with a time of 15:39 followed by Tim Ronan (Sr., Canyon del Oro) in 15:45 and David Fernandez (Ironwood Ridge) in 15:46.  Ironwood Ridge won the team title with 51 points followed by Salpointe Catholic with 72 points and Canyon del Oro with 79 points.
