Chandler Athletes Hit High Marks At National Scholastic Indoor Championships

Chandler High School seniors, Larissa Matthews, Bryce Lamb and Markus Wheaton traveled to New York to compete in the National Scholastic Indoor Championships over the weekend.

Bryce Lamb (photo on right by Don Rich Milesplit Pennsylvania)  faulted five of his six jumps in the long jump but his second jump of 24-5.00 was all he needed to beat second place Syteek Farrington (Jr., Camden, NHJ) who jumped 23-9.00 and win the National Championship.

It looked like Lamb was on his way to become the triple jump champion after jumping 48-11.50, however, Lincoln Carr (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) who did not break 48 feet on all his jumps, pulled off a 49-03.5 on his final try, moving ahead of Lamb.

Larissa Mathlews won her heat in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.84 moving her into the semi finals where she took 4th in 8.72.  Matthews took fifth in the finals finishing in 8.72.

Markus Wheaton finished 4th in the 400 meter prelims in 48.73 and 8th in the finals in 49.13.  Wheaton also competed in the 200 meter dash finishing 14th in the prelims in 22.28.  There were 69 competitors in the 400 meter dash and 81 in the 200 meter dash.

Matthews, Lamb and Wheaton did a great job representing Arizona at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships!!!
