Schadler Reigns Again And Sand Devils Pull Off The Five-Peat

While Bowen had been on the hunt for his first State Title, Samantha would pursue her second and the 6th AIA cross-country State Title for the Schadler household. Shadler kept a consistent pace through the first mile, with Alisia Honyumptewa (Chinle, Sr.) following just a second behind. Schadler continued to string out the pack followed only by Honyumptewa (Chinle), Zoey Delgado (Salpointe Catholic, Jr.), and Brynna McQuillen (Vista Grande, Jr.) under 12-minutes.
Schadler handily clinched the victory in 18:01 by almost 30 seconds ahead of Honyumptewa who finished runner-up. Zoey Delgado spearheaded the Lady Lancers with a third-place finish. McQuillen held onto 4th place in 19:23, while Woodlyn Smith (Coconino, Sr.) overtook Maggie Gibbs (Cactus, Sr.) over the third mile to finish 5th in 19:38, while Gibbs placed 6th in 19:47.
Salpointe Catholic had taken the control of the team race and closed the gap throughout the race. Following Delgado's lead, Lexi Lambert (So.) and Laurel Froehlich (So.), Taylor Thomas (Jr.) and Katie Kelly (Sr.) finished less than a minute apart to accumulate a total of 66 points, well ahead of 2nd place. Makenna Bray (Jr.) and Emily McMahon (Jr.) co-directed the Prescott girls to challenge Salpointe early on but their 1-5 girl spread would grow too wide to catch the Lancers. The Lady Badgers took second with 129 points ahead of the Ganado Hornets (145 points) and the Coconino Panthers (174).
