Morgan Smalls Has Unbelievably Successful State Experience

Panther Creek High School's Morgan Smalls entered into the record books on Saturday, winning the NCHSAA Class 4A girls high jump in a new US No. 1 and North Carolina state record of 6 feet, 1 inches at the JDL Facility in Winston Salem.

It's Smalls' first clearance over 6-feet indoors, and just her third clearance over that mark all-time. She became the first high jumper since Jelena Rowe in 2017 to at least clear 6-1.

Interestingly enough, Smalls, a junior in high school, isn't a specialist, either. She's run 7.33 in the 55m and marked over 19-feet in the long jump and over 40-feet in the triple jump in 2019 alone.

She continued her trek at the state championships and won two more titles in the long jump and triple jump, marking attempts at 19-11.25 and 41-9.75 to win three medals on the same day. The long jump is a new US No. 1 and the triple jump lands at US No. 3.
