Analysis: O'Connell had a heck of a freshman season. Helping lead Prosper to an appearance at Nike Cross Nationals, O'Connell played the role as the team's No. 1 runner throughout the season, earning strong early finishes at the Marcus I and McNeil Invitational before stepping it up in the postseason, grabbing a career best time of 16:52.84 and third-place finish at Texas' state championships. She was one of just 13 girls to run under 17 minutes for 5K in 2018 and earned her first trip to NXR South by finishing sixth at the regional outing.
O'Connell was just 41st at NXN, finishing in 17:59.30, but much was to be gained from the experience. She would go on to earn a freshman class No. 2 5K time of 17:27.87, a No. 8 1,600m effort of 4:52.71 and a freshman class No. 24 outing of 10:48.62.
