AZ Salute to Seniors | Isaac Davis

Isaac Davis
Casteel High School

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?
A: A lot of my training is more personal since we aren't able to have organized practice. I feel as if this isn't an opportunity to lose what we had worked hard for in season so I am using this opportunity to maintain my speed and endurance.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?
A: Besides working out, I am spending a lot of time with my family and working freelance work online with digital art and design. We also hold a movie night almost every day and action movies seem to be our popular pick.

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: My most memorable race would definitely have to be the 4x4 race at Queen Creek when I was able to run with my brother. Its such a different feeling receiving the stick from your younger brother, and as best as I can explain it, it was kind of competitive and cooperative at the same time.

Thunder Invite, 2020, Isaac winning the 400 meters.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
A: The funniest thing to happen to me during my season would have to be when I and some of the guys on the Arizona team for The Great Southwest were training for the relays. It was so fun to catch up with the guys again and competitively work together, and the practice day before the meet was super funny as we were all doing handoffs for the 4x400m.

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: While I would consider a lot of the guys who I have gotten the chance to run with during my season to be extremely good competitors, I would have to say that my most severe competition would be myself and my previous thought process. I say this because I have had moments where I needed to compete with how I was thinking whether it be at practice or in an actual race. Getting out of my head proved something different that I had to overcome mentally and not just by running my absolute best.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: My greatest accomplishment was definitely winning our first ever track state title in the 4x400m. I could never forget in my freshman year how good it felt to have been apart of something that Casteel hadn't seen before in Track and Feild, and I believe it was a good staple into the development of a lot of our further success in the sport.

Thunder Invite, 2020, Isaac winning the 100 meters.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: If there was something I could change in my Highschool career it would definitely be in my Junior year and how I got injured. I was really looking forward to my Junior year, but due to my injury, I had to stop competing for a while and basically had to sit the season out.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: Going back to my Junior year, when I wasn't able to run It has really affected me emotionally as I started getting on myself for not being able to run, I had to quickly get over this mindset so I could focus on getting back into the game, and because of this I was able to make it to state for Junior year.

Q: What will you miss the most?
A: The thing I would miss the most is going to have to be the friends from not just my own team, but from the guys I have been blessed to run against. They have brought me joy and competition and have pushed me to levels that I was very proud to achieve and that's something I know I will miss going into College. I hope I get the same thing once that new college competition hits, but I will never forget the guys who gave it to me first.
