AZ MileSplit Easter Egg Hunt

How many eggs can you get in your basket?

Happy Easter! We wanted to have some fun this morning and seeing how Easter egg hunts are not a bad social distancing exercise, we'd thought we give you one that may be more fun for you track and field enthusiasts out there and one which you can do safely from the confines of your home.

We have 20 athletes from Arizona that are pretty good at what they do on the track and out on the field, and we want to see how many can you get right in 2 minutes without any hints? (You can take longer, but thought you'd like a challenge).

While we know we could have made this list two or three times larger with great current Arizona athletes, there was really no criteria other than trying to get a number of different events covered. So if you feel snubbed - sorry (do you know how long this graphic above took me to make!?), but don't take it as we don't feel you're a top Arizona athlete, just that we simply ran out of room and time to get more on the image above.

Hints for each egg above

If you don't know who each athlete is above, then we will give you some hints for each one to help you out. If you think you got them all right, then send us your answers to dza@milesplitaz.com by end of day Tuesday, April 14 (@11:59 pm) and a lucky winner will be chosen from random to get a cool prize from us.

#1 - She's heading to Oregon next year and her team was recently mentioned on ESPN's Scott Van Pelt's Show in their #SeniorNight segment.

#2 - He's still not sure where he's running in college, but someone will be happy to have him. Before the 2020 track season was cut short he had put down a 47.96 (PR), 21.73 (PR), and 10.93 (PR) already!

#3 - She's a very talented senior and can do many events well, but the hurdles are where she shines brightest. We have spotlighted her this year and know we may have seen a sub-14 second 100-meter hurdle from her in 2020 if we had had a full season.

#4 - He's fast. He's a senior. And he plays on one of the top football teams in the country and never lost in 2019 in the 100 or 200. You'll be seeing him playing football on Saturday's for the Dawgs.

#5 - He just ran a 4:03 mile time trial the other day. He's heading to the University of Washington next fall. Watch him roar.

#6 - She's part of the DV Thunder Girls' powerhouse distance squad. She's new to Arizona but been in the national spotlight for...well for a very long time. She has a younger sister, who isn't too bad herself in running either.

#7 - This young man was primed to go over 50-feet in the triple jump this year, but we all know too well how that story played out. He was ranked 1st in AZ last year in the triple jump and is still figuring out where to jump in college next fall.

#8 - This young woman is heading to Texas A&M and is going to be great at whatever she ends up focusing on in track and field. Speed, agility, stamina...bam!

#9 - She's heading to NAU next fall and is one of the top hurdles in Arizona. She was 2nd and 3rd last year in the 300-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles at the Division 2 State Meet, respectively.

#10 - Basha's top jumper had already set a new long jump PR in our very truncated 2020 season (22-5), which had him at #1 in Arizona. He has a triple-jump best of 46-8.25, which got him 2nd in the Division 1 State Meet in 2019. He's a senior.

#11 - Like many Chandler Wolves, she was a Cheetah first. She's a great all-around thrower, with her Javelin being her strongest event (US #57 in 2019, and US #1 in 2020). She's only a junior by the way.

#12 - As a freshman last year he ran 10.49 in the 100m to win the AIA Division 1 State Championship. He had yet to compete individually in 2020 before the season ended, but his team did get a 4x100 in at Corona.

#13 - He was just recently featured in one of our Senior Salutes and is heading to GCU here in Phoenix to continue his distance dominance. His best times from 2019 of 4:17.16 (1600) and 9:20.82 (3200) were surely going to fall in 2020.

#14 - She is a great pole vaulter who will become a Jayhawk next fall. She was still able to get in a new PR of 13-6 this season before the track and field year was shut down.

#15 - He was both a baseball player and javelin thrower for many years for the Pride, but this year was focusing all his efforts on throwing the spear. He has thrown over 200 feet and is a nationally ranked thrower (US #19 2019).

#16 - This girl has hops. She's a baller, too, but also can get over that high jump bar without issue. Her best height is 5-7 and she had already gotten of 5-6 this year. She is the pride of Nogales for sure.

#17 - Another Wolf whose throws have quite a bite. She's equally good at all three throwing events, and in the Division 1 State Meet in 2019 took 1st (shot put), 2nd (javelin), and 3rd (discus).

#18 - A senior thrower from Bradshaw Mountain who was US #93 in the javelin in 2019 and was looking to continue his dominance in Division 3 this spring.

#19 - This girl is truly a "gift" to track and field in Arizona. She has good speed, has gotten over 18-feet in the long jump earlier this season (a new PR) and was the Division 3 State Champion in the long jump in 2019.

#20 - This young man is a football player, but gets some serious height over the high jump bar as well. He has a best of 6-8 but had already gotten over 6-6 in early 2020. This Youngker High School senior is the real deal.

Good Luck

There you have it. Good luck. Happy Easter. Send us your answers in by end of day Tuesday (April 14th by 11:59 pm) - dza@milesplitaz.com (headline: Easter Egg Hunt).
