St. Charles East Emerging Star Micah Wilson Cooks In AZ

Micah Wilson ran well under the Arizona darkness Saturday night

SAN TAN VALLEY, ARIZONA --

The hype radar was squarely placed on premium athletes who dared to venture out to the Phoenix, Arizona suburban area despite some scare tactics of an uptick in Covid-19 cases. However, veteran track and field co-ordinator Dave Shapiro and his staff did a tremendous job of getting together athletes from all over the country to come and compete. Safety in travel as well in extra careful steps in the meet management was paramount. Parents, athletes, and staff indicated that the Desert Dream-Last Hurrah was one of the best track and field meets they have attended.

Several Illinois athletes made the long haul and came away with some satisfactory results. Ava Parekh (So., Chicago Latin) ran the 1600m on Friday night and came away with a 5:01.32 good for 9th overall. On Saturday, Parekh doubled back and ran the 3200m with a time of 10:32.96. The results were not exactly what she was looking for, but it was solid and something to build on. Teammate junior Marianne Mihas was ahead of the field late in the 800m but faded on the homestretch and placed third in 2:13.20... even Windsor Roberts of Tri-Valley got in on the action by taking a crisp second in the girls' pole vault with a 13-1 clearance.

Micah Wilson will be a force on the scene in the few years for his beloved St. Charles East team. The rising junior was among the entrants in the 3200. His coach Chris Bostick indicated that Wilson was ready to lay down a nice team after training throughout the spring the best he could. Wilson was able to dog the leaders for virtually the entire race. After a solid first half in 4:36 and later the bell in 8:06, Wilson ran out of gas and lost contact. However, he was able to come home in a personal best 9:17.53. The goal was to go under 9:20 and now it's off to cross country training.
