A little different look this year for twilight
There are 150 high school teams, 40 club teams, and a number of unattached athletes that will be competing at Desert Twilight in a couple of weeks. After speaking with Ellie Hardt, Meet Director for Desert Twilight, she said that registration is closed and the meet is full. She would love to have more teams, but the logistics the meet faces with COVID-19 protocols is just too overwhelming to handle any more athletes. This year's race will now be two days instead of one. The first races will start Thursday evening on October 1st at 5:00 pm. There will be races on Friday, October 2nd in the morning and the traditional Friday evening time slots as well. There are no community race or middle school division races this year due to COVID-19 as well.
When do teams race the year?
On Thursday, October 1st there will be six races: Small School Freshman Girls, Small School Freshman Boys, Small School Open Girls, Small School Open Boys, Small School Varsity Girls, and Small School Varsity Boys.
On Friday, October 2nd from 7:10 am to 10:15 there will be 6 more races: Large School Varsity Girls, Large School Varsity Boys, Large School Open Girls, Large School Open Boys, Large School Freshman Girls, and Large School Freshman Boys.
Due to some high school teams in Arizona and outside Arizona not having an official cross country season because their respective schools have canceled fall sports in 2020, Twilight set up club/unattached athlete races so they would be able to compete.
There will be eight races in the evening starting at 5 pm: Unattached/Club Girls Champs, Unattached/Club Boys Champs, Championship Girls, Championship Boys, Unattached/Club Sweeps Girls, Unattached Club Sweeps Boys, HS Sweepstakes Girls, HS Sweepstakes Boys.
