AIA Div. I: BOYS 5K RUN - STATE FINALS
Rodriguez Captures Title as Highland and Desert Vista Shine at AIA Division I State Meet
The AIA Division I Boys State Cross Country Championships delivered a fast and competitive race, highlighted by Hamilton senior Zarian Rodriguez, who surged to the front and claimed the individual state title in 15:28.00. Rodriguez controlled the race from the mid-point onward, securing one of the biggest wins of his career.
The team battle was deep and tightly contested, with perennial powers Highland, Desert Vista, and Basha placing runners consistently inside the top 25% of the field. Mountain Ridge would battle the the three standout schools throughout the length of the course and held their own in a fight for a podium finish in Phoenix. Highland showed both depth and pack strength, placing five athletes under 17:00 and positioning themselves among the top squads in the state once scoring was tallied.
At the end of the day, it was Mountain Ridge who nabbed the runner-up team finish in the Div I race. Desert Vista delivered another reliable championship performance with Luke Littlefield and Santiago Araiza leading the way, but Basha's well-balanced lineup-featuring sophomores and juniors-kept them firmly rooted in the third place spot against Desert Vista.
