AIA Div. I: GIRLS 5K RUN - STATE FINALS
Highland Claims Division I Girls State Title as Drewry Wins Individual Championship
The AIA Division I Girls 5,000m State Championship opened with a dominant individual performance from Basha senior Taylor Drewry, who secured the state title in 18:05.80. Highland senior Audra Huempfner finished second in 18:31.50, and Xavier Prep's Kennedy Frakes closed strong for third in 18:46.70.
Behind the leaders, the team race quickly became a showcase of Highland's unmatched depth. With five scorers inside the top 15, Huempfner (2), Morris (5), Bonnette (9), Delancey (12), and Anderson (14)-the Hawks secured the Division I state team championship with one of the lowest scores of the entire meet.
Desert Vista earned the runner-up spot behind strong finishes from Isabel Villarreal (4), Kendyl Taylor (19), and Lydia Leeman (21), along with consistent scoring from their 4th and 5th runners.
Xavier College Preparatory, powered by Frakes' individual podium performance and a tightly grouped scoring five, claimed third place to round out the state podium.
