Arizona Loses Former Top Prep Runner; Nadya Bishton

A note from Coach Don Tate:

It is with deep sadness that I inform the Arizona high school running community of the passing last week of Nadya Bishton, class of 2008 at Mountain Ridge. The cause of her death is still unknown and out of respect for her and her family it is requested that respondents to this notice refrain from speculation. Information on a memorial service will be forthcoming as soon as it is available.

Nadya left a lasting impression at Mountain Ridge and in Arizona high school athletics. Her death has deeply affected many of her fellow runners and their messages of concern and requests to assist the family are heartwarming. Our staff and team appreciate all the heartfelt messages the past few days.

Nadya Bishton was a 2008 graduate of Mountain Ridge High School.  While in high school Nadya set several meet records and was the 2007 Cross Country State Champion setting the meet record.  She was also a two time Foot Locker Finalist.

After graduation she went to the University of Wisconsin before transferring to San Jose State where she competed in cross country last fall.

Nadya and her twin sister Nastia were very competitive as runners but were very close as sisters.  They almost always finished within a few seconds of each other.
