Nike Track Nationals Weekly Update: 6/10/10

With the track and field season coming to a close, athletes have one more weekend to help their teams compete for the top 12 spots at the Nike Track Nationals.  This weekend athletes will compete at the Midwest Distance Gala and the Adidas Golden West before logging their final scores on the 13th.

Long Beach Poly CA  - 8381.39


The California State Meet helped to give Long Beach Poly a 55 point boost with performances from Carisma Lyday, who ran a slight PR of 11.75 in the 100 meter dash (986.96 points) and Awawkaw Ndipogbor with a 53.49 in the 400 meter dash for 1003.38 points.  Also contributing to the team points this week were Arielle Stevenson with a 2:10.27 (963.10 points) in the 800 meter dash and Melia Cox with a 13.75 (1012.22 points) in the 100 meter hurdles.

Chandler High School AZ – 8355.94
 


Chandler high school moved to within 26 points of US#1 Long Beach Poly after the Great Southwest last week.   Once again Sophomore Jasmine Todd ran a new PR in the 100 meter dash of 11.64 for 1010.87 points and Alexis Clay ran a 14.52 in the 100 meter hurdles for 926.67 points. 

 


Northeast

Columbia NJ  - 7909.53


Columbia jumped 150 points to US#3 bumping South Brunswick out of the top regional spot.  Jasmine Carter ran an 11.89 in the 100 meter dash at the NJ Meet of Champions last weekend for 956.52 ponts.   Kayann Richards also ran a 13.91 in the 100 meter hurdles for 994.44 points.  Britney Jackson had her best time in the 800 meter dash with a 2:08.17 (993.85 points)

 


Southeast

Western Branch VA  - 7879.16


Virginia held their State Meet last weekend and Western Branch athletes had some top performances to give them an additional 34 points this week starting Desmonae Gray who ran a 14.57 in the 100 meter hurdles for 921.11 points.  Camille Thomas earned 886.36 points in the long jump for her 18-3 jump.

 


South

Woodlands TX  - 7873.72


The Woodlands has a huge lead over the rest of the teams in the south and are only .16 behind US#7 Clovis West from California.  There were no changes to the team points this week.

East Kentwood MI - 7784.63


East Kentwood earned an additional 75 points but stayed at US#12 and 74 points ahead of 2nd place Lee’s Summit West.   Britteny Terry earned 873.68 points by running 56.94 in the 400 meter dash at the MHSAA Division 1 State Championship.  Krista Parks also ran a PR at the State Championship by running a 5:02.45 in the 1600 meter run for 863.77 points.

Southwest NE – 7665.99


Southwest out of Lincoln, Nebraska stays at #1 in the region and moves down 3 spots nationally to US#15.  There were no changes to the team points this week.

Harvest Westlake remains at #2 in the state and the region but moved down to US#5. The team earned 7 points this week at the California State Meet thanks to Amy Weissenback who won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.52 for 1003.37 points.

Clovis West moved down to US#7 from their 5th place last week but still added 37 points to the team score.  Helping the team this week was Alyssa Monteverde who ran 13.89 in the 100 meter hurdles for 996.67 points.

Trabuco Hills remains in 4th place in the state and region and in 9th place in the US.  There have been no changes in the team score this week.

The Kentwood boys earned an additional 35 points last weekend at the MHSAA Division 1 State Championship.  Mohamed Mohamed ran a 48.78 for 884.46 points.  Isaac Cox ran a blistering 1:51.78 in the 800 meter run for 971.39 points.  Tori Brooks also helped the team by jumping 6-8 in the high jump for 907.14 points.

Vista Murrieta stayed at US#2 but still added 22 points to the team total after the California State Meet with a shot put performance of 48-07 by Corey Whitaker.

Sam Barlow had a great week jumping form US#17 to US#4 with a 172 point gain in the team score after the team competed at the Border Dual last weekend.  Nathanael Franks earned 850.78 points for a 49.43 run in the 400 dash.   Thrower Ryan Crouser has 1054.14 points for his 69-8.5 shot put and 1010.23 points for his discus throw of 201-6.

Brophy Prep stayed at US#9 and earned an additional 21 points this week thanks to Harry Danilevics who earned 856.72 points for a 14.86 run in the110 meter hurdles at the Great Southwest last weekend.

St. Thomas Aquinas was not previously ranked but moved into the US#8 spot this week.   The team has six athletes with over 900 points.  Phillip Dorsett has 909.52 points for his 10.79 run in the 100 dash.  Arman Hall ran a 47.43 in the 400 dash for 954.40 points. Cody Riggs has 977.61 points for a 14.05 110 hurdles and 937.74 points for a 23-3 long jump.  David Shepherd jumped 15-5.75 for 932.61 points in the pole vault and John Marmarosa has 915.80 points for a discus throw of 173-7.75.
