Arizona CC Journal #2 - Daylee Burr

Milesplit Arizona Cross Country Journals

Daylee returns this season as one of the top female runners in the state completing a very successful track season last spring with a 5:05.27 PR in the 1600 and an 11:09.57 in the 3200, placing 4th in both events at the State Meet.  Last weekend Daylee finished 5th at the George Young invitational followed by 4 of her teammates.  Daylee is a very hard worker and if you spend any time with her you will quickly learn she is the sweetest, kindest person you can meet.  Keep checking back to see how Daylee's season progresses.

Journal Entry #2 (October 11, 2010)

Hey there Milesplit!

Let's see, it is now October and I just finished the Twilight Invitational held out in Queen Creek last weekend. The atmosphere was amazing, since every racer knew it was going to be a fast course! The most exciting part, I'd have to say, would be the dance party that was occurring before the HS Sweepstakes races. As the Xavier team was warming up, it was hilarious to look over and see fellow runners who had finished their races celebrate. Definitely a stress-free way to start the race! It was also really fun racing at night, and even though it was a little warm (at 8:45 PM, surprising, I know), the race went pretty well! Personally, I felt good over all, but the hardest part was slowly picking apart bodies. My teammate Breanna Perrone did this exceptionally well! I would have liked to be a little more competitive, but there is still more racing to be done so it's bound to happen eventually! I was content with the results, and we won as a team so that was pretty exciting!

Now onto colleges and whatever else there is to discuss, my co-captain and friend, Katie Penney, and I are taking a college visit to the University of Arizona this weekend! I am really excited because it will be cool to see what college running is all about! I am also considering Pepperdine University, Santa Clara University, and Loyola Marymount University. In simpler terms, Tucson or California! I am going to take all of the California visits second semester, but I am excited to see how the UofA is! I want to stay on the west coast because I don't think I could realistically take living too far from home. Plus I have 2 brothers and a sister that already attend the UofA, so it would be nice to join them!  California would be nice because I absolutely love running trails, and it seems to have quite a few of those :)

Back to training, I am currently on the same plan as I have been on since the season started. Running 6 days a week, with a second cross-training work-out twice a week. My next race is at the legendary Mt. SAC course in California, where we will be competing in the team sweepstakes! I am really excited for this meet because all of the girls have been training so hard, and it will be interesting to see how we run those mini-mountains!

Thanks for reading! I'll keep all of you updated on my running life!
