Arizona's next wave of sprint talent is already making an impact. From breakout freshmen to rising sophomores, these athletes are posting some of the fastest 100m times in the state and establishing themselves as contenders early in the 2026 season.
Last week, Marcus Owens ran a wind-aided 10.83 at the Just Us Invitational, fully displaying the raw talent he has as a freshman. Owens followed up that performance with a wind-legal 11.01, showing he has the ability to go under 10-seconds when the wind is right. This the past week may be the breakout we remember four years from now as Owens continues to develop into a consistent contender in Arizona.
Sophomore Rowlen Greer has made a 180 in his sophomore season, becoming one of Arizona's top sprinters. So far this season, he's run a personal record of 10.83 at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational, improving on his 11.54 best from a freshman season. He's run under 11 seconds in three of his 100-meter performances this season.
Tziporah Korto ran 12.11 at the 19th Annual Greenway Invitational, a mark that underscores her remarkable progression in 2026. She began the year with a personal record of 12.26 at the end of February and has improved to 12.11 after four more races. Korto is now tied for AZ #10 overall and #3 among sophomores in the state. After placing 3rd last year at the state finals as a 9th grader, she is making strides toward possibly her first Arizona state title.
Freshman Tori Morse swept the Brophy Fr. Olivier Invitational 100m and 200m, setting two personal records and placing her among the state's best sprinters. She ran a personal record of 12.49 in the 100m, improving on her 12.70 best set earlier in March. She's the second fastest freshman in the state this year in the 100m. Morse was even more impressive in the 200m, where she finally broke 26 seconds to run a personal record of 25.50.
