World Youth Track and Field Trials

 

 

Several Arizona and California athletes are competing at the World Track and Field Trials today and tomorrow.

Arizona Boys:

  • Travis Colby from Chandler won the Javelin with a toss of 212-02 and will be heading to France!
  • Brophy's Devon Allen finished 4th in the 110 hurdle prelims in 13.99.
  • Jamaal Jones from Shadow Mountain is half way through the Octathlon finishing 1st in he 100 dash, 2nd in the shot put, 4th in the 400 dash and 7th in the long jump.
  • Jones finished 4th in the Octathlon after 4 more events on the second day.  Jones won the Javelin, finished 5th in the 1000 meters, 3rd in the 110 hurdles and 6th in the high jump.

Arizona Girls:

  • Jade Stepter from Canyon del Oro is tied for the lead coming out of the 400 hurdle prelims with a slight dip under a minute with 59.54.
  • Stepter finished 6th in the 400 hurdle finals with a 1:01.12.
  • Hamilton's Ashlee Moore is doing well in the heptatlon with a tie for 1st place in the high jump (5-9.25), 2nd place in the shot put, 2nd place in the 100 hurdles and 6th in the 200 dash.
  • Ashlee Moore finished 2nd in the girls Heptathlon with 4747 points.  On the second day of competition Moore won the Javelin, finished 2nd in the Long Jump and 9th in the 800.
  • Sarah Fakler, Xavier College Prep, won the 3000 meter run in 9:54.60 and finished 8th in the 1500 meter run in 4:43.27.

 

California Boys:

  • Darren Fahy, La Costa Canyon, won the boys 3000 meter run in 8:35.17

 

California Girls:

  • Gatorade National Player of the Year Winner Amy Weissenbach, Harvard Westlake, finished 2nd in the 800 meter run prelims with a 2:13.38
  • Weissenbach finished a very close 2nd in the 800 finals in 2:09.52 to Ajee Wilson's 2:09.39.
  • Trinity Wilson, St. Mary's College Prep, leads the 100 hurdle prelims with a 13.59 heading into the finals.
  • Wilson won the 100 meter hurdles with a US#4 time of 13.42w.  Wilson holds the #3 spot with a 13.38.
