Rolf Melby Meet, MN

Highlights

  • Maria Hauger (Jr., Shakopee) set a new PR and tops the MN and national list with a time of 13.56 on the 4k state meet course.

 

Artesian Classic, IN

Thomson leads Zeinasellassie at the mile mark

Highlights

  • US#2 Futsum Zeinasellassie (North Central) slipped away from watchlister Jacob Thomson (KY) to win the boys varsity race in 15:28.2 while Thomson was 15:405.  US#20 Andrew Diehn (Columbus North) was 4th in 16:00.

 

 

Lagoon Valley Classic, CA

Highlights

  • US#17 Luis Luna, Piner CA, won the boys Large School Divison in 15:57.91 over the 3 mile course.  Teammate Jaime Silva finished 2nd in 16:10.94.

 

 

Asics Cougar Classic XC Relay, CA

  • Rancho Bernardo won both the boys and the girls 4x1.5 mile relays with the girls finishing in 35:23 and the boys finishing in 29:45.  La Costa Canyon took second in both races.  The girls were 4 seconds behind Rancho Bernardo in 35:27 and the boys finished 40 seconds behind in 30:25.  The runners passed wrist bands instead of batons.

 

Clara Bowl Invitational, GA

Highlights

  • US#2 Grace Tinkey (First Presbyterian) continues her strong running as she ran her fastest 5k of the season with a blistering 17:38 winning time.  Her splits were 5:33 through 1 mile, 11:18 through 2 miles, and 17:06 through 3 miles.  Harrison girls won the team title with 96 points.
  • Macon Labor Day Road Race - Tinkey won the female division of the race in 16:41 and finished 3rd overall out of 1434 runners.

 

Geico Classic, WV

Highlights

  • US#6 Jacob Burcham (Cabell Midland) opened his 2011 season with a big win, although he took it easy, running a time of 16:08.1 which is nearly a minute off his course record from last year.

Highlights

Bernie Montoya (Cibola) and Sarah Fakler (Xavier)

 

  • Bernie Montoya (Sr., Cibola) shot out to the front of the pack and led to the finish with a time of 14.57.65 over the 3.0 course.  Montoya's win was a minute faster than the winning time in 2010.
  • Sarah Fakler (Jr., Xavier College Prep) won the girls race in 17:02.  Fakler also took an early lead finishing 50 seconds ahead of her time from last year.
  • Xavier College Prep won the girls title with 23 points placing 8 runners in the top 9.  Four sophomores and 2 juniors make up the young team.
  • The Desert Vista boys team won the team title with 83 points placing all five runners in the top 25.

 

 

Marcus 1 Invitational, TX

Highlights

  • Southlake Carroll girls put on an impressive display of depth, winning the girls 5A Varsity race with 34 points and a 21 second 1-5 split.  Natalie Rathjen (Highland Park) won the 2 mile race with a time of 11:03.90.  
  • The Southlake Carroll boys put on an equally impressive display in the boys 5A Varsity race, winning with 27 points and a mere 27 second spread over 5000 meters.  Robert Domanic (Hebron) won the race in 15:06.20 while teammate Kevyn Hoyos finished 2nd in 15:10.50.  Joe Sansone (SL Carroll) led the winning team with his 3rd place 15:11.90 clocking.

 

Hinsdale South Hornet Invitational, IL

Highlights

  • In the girls Varsity race Amanda Fox (Naperville Central) smoked the 3 mile Katherine Legg Park layout enroute to a 17:05.88 clocking and the win.  Lindsey Rakosnik (Glenbard East) finished a distant 2nd in 17:27.60.  New Trier won the team race with 60 points.
  • Leland Later (New Trier) won a close boys Varsity race with a time of 15:08.09 while Peter Tomkiewicz (Palatine) finished 2nd in 15:14.31.  Nequa Valley won the team race with 41 points.

 

Niskayuna Ekiden, NY

Highlights

  • US#7 Shaker NY ran impressive splits for 2500 meters as they took the top-7 times with 5 under 8 minutes.  Mike Libruk led the way with a 7:55.4 clocking.
  • In the girls race Academy of the Holy Names set a new meet record with a total time of 29:00.9.     

 

SMAA Relays, ME

Highlights

  • US#7 Abbey Leonardi (Kennebunk) started the season off right, covering the 1.5 mile relay circuit in 8:11 for a 17 second win over Emily Durgin (Cheverus) who was 2nd in 8:28.  Cheverus won the team competition, clocking a 5-runner time of 46:16.
  • In the boys competition Nick Morris won a tight battle over Cam Nadeau (Biddeford) 7:36 to 7:37.  Scarborough won the team title with a time of 57:31.

 

Peter Geraghty Invitational, MD

Highlights

  • In the girls race meet history was made in surprising fashion with two girls going well under the existing course record.  Hannah Oneda (Winters Mill) blasted an 18:03.20 to clear the old record by 49 seconds!  Ellie Gonzalez (Catholic) finished 2nd with an equally impressive clocking of 18:25.20 as both girls were the only two under 19:00.  Walt Whitman won the girls team competition with 54 points.
  • in the boys varsity race Kevin Corbusier (Loyola Blakefield) didn't get former teammate Matt Jablonski's course record of 15:44, but he finished with a solid 15:52.70 for the win.  Will Meadows (Gilman School) finished a close 2nd with a time of 15:54.90.  Our Lady of Good Counsel won the meet with 92 points.  

 

Caldwell Twilight, ID

Highlights

  • Watchlister Emily Nist (Bishop Kelly) powered her way to the win and a dominating top-3 for Bishop Kelly with her 18:52.77 clocking.  Bishop Kelly places 3 in the top-5 but finished 2nd to Boise 74 to 91.
  • Justin Ross (Rocky Mountain) won the boys varsity race in 16:23.63 but Eagle won the team title with 44 points.

 

Ragged Mountain Cup, VA

Coverage

Highlights

  • The Albemarle VA boys won the Cup title with the fastest time in history for the 4x2 mile relay race.  Their 10:21 average was good for a time of 41:25.  Adam Visokay recorded the fastest split on the day as he anchored the team in 9:52.  

 

PR Relay Kick Off, VA

Highlights

  • US#5 Ahmed Bile (Annandale) recorded the top 2 mile split in high grass with a time of 10:16.  
  • In the girls races Sophie Chase (Lake Braddock) was on top with a time of 11:39.  

 

SCSDB Eye Opener, SC

Coverage

Highlights

  • In the international girls race Molly Foster (Science Hill) took the win easily in 18:42 as she won it in 18:20 last year.
  • Sage Kosiorek (Boiling Springs) won the boys international race with a time of 15:48.

 

Asics-Marion HS XC Invitational, IN

Highlights

  • In the boys Varsity 5k Josh Neideck (Eastbrook) gutted out a victory and a sub-16 clocking of 15:56.55.  Max Silcox (Homestead) cruised in for 2nd with a time of 15:58.36 to lead his team to the victory with 66 points and a 16:25 average.  
  • In the girls Varsity 5k Helen Willman (Noblesville) grabbed yet another impressive victory with an 18:22.59 clocking.  Noblesville was dominate in the team race with 39 points.

 

Hamilton County Meet, IN

Highlights

  • US#4 Carmel IN girls rocked their county meet with 27 points scored and an impressive team average of 18:45.  Helen Willman (Noblesville) wound up with the win in 18:22.9 and Kelcy Welch finished 2nd for Carmel in 18:35.1.  Carmel finished 2-4-6-7-8-10-11.

 

Back to the Woodlands Friday Night Lights, TX

Highlights

  • US#18 Daniel Vertiz (San Antonio Reagan) won the boys 2.83 mile varsity race in 14:16.24 with Nathaniel Jones (Klein Oak) in 2nd with a time of 14:34.63.  Cedar Park dominated the team competition over Klein Oak 43 to 108.
  • In the girls Maddie McLellan (The Woodlands) won the girls 1.88 mile varsity race with a time of 10:45.25.  The Woodlands dominated with a winning score of just 25 points.  

 

Columbus North/Martinsville Duel, IN

Highlights

  • US#3 Columbus North boys dominated and likely cruised in their winning effort.  Nonetheless, they showed impressive pack tactics in the race.  Andrew Diehn won the race in 15:50 as the 1-5 spread was 55 seconds.  The girls also swept in the team competition.

 

Mike Gibson Summertime Run, FL

Highlights

  • Billy Anguish (Winter Park) blazed to the win with a time of 16:17.54 as Winter Park easily took the team title with 56 points.
  • In girls action Amy Ankli (Hagerty) won with a dominate performance in 19:16.0.  Hagerty won the team title in equally dominating fashin with just 42 points.

 

Wickham Park Jamboree, FL

Coverage

Highlights

  • Daniel Moore (Holy Trinity) won the boys Varsity race in 16:04 after going easy early in the race before his coach let him loose.
  • In the girls race frosh Julie Wollrath (Holy Trinity) took off after 2 miles and won in 18:33.  

 

Utah County Invitational, UT

Highlights

  • Ben Saarel (Park City) came out on top in the boys varsity race with a winning time of 15:15.53 as over 400 runners toed the line for the race.  Mountain View scored 89 points to come out victorious in the team competition.  
  • Ashleigh Warner (Mountain View) won a fast race over Orem's Summer Harper, 17:47.55 to 17:58.84.  Mountain View also took home the girls team crown with 87 points.  

 

John Sharp Viking Invitational, PA

Highlights

  • In the boys varsity race Sam Hibbs (Hatboro Horsham) ran 30 seconds faster than last year with his winning time of 15:29, just ahead of Max Norris (Harriton), who ran 15:31.
  • On the girls side Kara Steinky (Methacton) won the varsity race with a clocking of 18:34.

 

Del Oro XC Invitational, CA

Highlights

  • Karlie Garcia (Jr, Oakmont) won the 4K girls varsity race in 14:48 with a 43 second lead over second place.
  • On the boys side, Trevor Stephens (Jr., Del Oro) took the win, on home course, in 12:56.  Stephens won by 9 seconds over 2nd place finisher Trent Brendel (Jr., Granite Bay).
