What are your goals for the upcoming season:

I have many individual and team goals for the season. My team’s goal is to simply be state champions. As an individual I have decided to make away from the intimidated cross country runner that I was and step on the line having confidence to reach my goal to run an 18:15.

How is your summer training going?   Your favorite workout?  What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My summer training has been very consistent, I finished my track season at The Great Southwest and started training for cross country averaging 40 miles a week or more. My favorite workout is anything on the track that gets my legs moving a little faster.

How long have you been running and how did you get started:

I started running competitively in 8th grade, running for the Arizona Cheetahs I placed 4th and 5th in the 1500 and 800 at nationals and placed first in the 800 meters at the Youth Outdoor T&F Championships in Myrtle Beach.

Will you be competing out of State this season?  If so, when and where?

My team will be competing in Mt. Sac in California.

What are your favorite courses and the toughest courses to run in State and out of State.

My favorite course in the state is twilight, running in the dark on a fast course is a great experience. Mt. Sac is the toughest course I’ve ever raced in and one of the largest.

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

Seeing my team run their best for a state runner up was a great experience and we hope to bring a bigger title home this year!

When you are not running what do you like to do?

When I’m not running I love to spend time with my friends and family.

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

Desert Vista has a great lifting program; I lift every other day in weight training with the rest of the DVCC boys and girls team. I also swim with the varsity girls on Fridays.

Do you think you would like to run competitively after high school?

My overall goal in my high school career is to run collegiately. A scholarship for running is a big dream of mine

What were your favorite Olympic sports and did they inspire you in any way?

My favorite Olympic sports to watch this summer were track and field and swimming. Seeing hard working athletes from around the world compete for gold was very inspiring

Favorite quote?

“I like to make something beautiful when I run. I like to make people stop and say, ‘I’ve never seen anyone run like that before.’ It’s more than a race, it’s a style. It’s doing something better than anyone else. It’s being creative.” Steve Prefontaine
