Nike will be sending elite runner German Fernandez (Riverside High, CA and Oklahoma State) to Arizona to attend the Nike Cross SW Regionals at ToKa Sticks in Gilbert Arizona on November 23rd.
Fernandez is best known for some record breaking high school performances in California.
He broke the California Cross Country State Meet Course (Woodward Park, Fresno) in 2007 with a time of 14:24 besting Olympian Marc Davis's time by 14 seconds.
Seven months later Fernandez went on to run two blistering races at the California Track and Field State Meet.
California's Track and Field State Meet is a one night only meet with the top runners in the state competing in each event - regardless of division.
Fernandez broke Ryan Hall's 1600 meter state meet record of 4:02.62 by running a 4:00.29. A few hours later he ran an 8:34.23 in the 3200 meter run. This double run is the fastest distance double in the history of American High School distance running.
A few weeks later Fernandez broke the 2 mile high school record, once held by Jeff Nelson (1979), by running a time of 8:34.40. During the same race he broke Galen Rupp's 3000 meter record by passing the 3000 split at 7:59.82.
Fernandez went on to have great success at Oklahoma State University.
His first year he ran a 3:56.6 mile breaking the World Junior Record.
In 2009 Fernandez was the NCAA Division 1 1500 meter outdoor champions with a time of 3:39.
