Meet of Champion Winners

Brian Shrader (Jr., Flagstaff) moved right to the front at the start of the pack with Jose Joe Munoz (Rio Rico) on his shoulder.  The group came through the first lap in 62 seconds and 2:06 at the 800.  With 300 meters to go senior Jon Brown from Highland made a move to catch Shrader coming up on his right with 60 meters to go.  Shrader pushed harder and finished the race with a new PR of 4:12.07.

Brown was very pleased with his 7 second PR  of 4:12.47.

Ryan Yazzie (Tuba City) took 3rd with a PR of his own (4:16.71).

"Coming into MOC I knew I should have PR'd really big based on my physical fitness. However the week leading up to the race I just wasn't feeling as sharp as I usually do. But I still managed to get about a 1 second PR which is always great to do. Jon Brown and Ryan Yazzie ran terrific PR's and everyone else ran extremely well too!" said Shrader after the race, " Running in MOC is always a really enjoyable meet for me. It's really relaxed, fun, and fast! It's a little disappointing how it's not as big as it should be. I think the meet should be a focus point for Arizona athletes in the future. It's a chance to see where you stack up against other divisions and race people you wouldn't other wise be able to. With the athletes who showed up you saw huge PR's and fast times. Just imagine what times and marks we could see if we truly got the best to compete against the best."
