11th Annual Mesa Hohokam Invitational at Westwood High School

Dear Track Coaches,
Westwood High School is pleased to host another competitive track meet this season. More finalist, no prelims, individual awards, team awards, great atmosphere, organized and timely. Our track was resurfaced over the summer break and we are ready roll.
The meet will be held at Westwood High School on Thursday, April 17th of 2014. The 18th is Spring break day for many schools.
No Prelims this year! In talking with several coaches over the past few years, many of you have expressed the difficulty in running prelims, finals, and relays in same day meets. The Hohokam format will be changed to allow athletes to focus more on performance rather than trying to survive prelims and finals. Additionally we will take Top 12 in field events will advance to finals. The overall goal is to have more athletes competing to qualify for state.
In the Sprints and Hurdles the top 14 seed times will go straight to finals in the Evening session and NOT run prelims. The top 2 performers from sprints and hurdles Early session will also advance to the evening finals. Finals for Sprints and Hurdles will be seeded according to time with the fastest 8 in heat 2, and the next fastest 8 in the first heat. In the distance events the top 24 will run in the Evening Session. The field events will be competed in flights with prelims and finals. Entry marks must come from 2014 Invitational meets (All exceptions need to be approved by Meet Director). The second page of this letter contains a tentative time schedule for your review. The entry fee for non-City of Mesa schools is $300 total for boys and girls teams ($150 each).
Mesa Schools City Championship. Same as last year, the Hohokam Invitational will also serve as the Mesa City Championship. Based on placement in Prelims or Finals the top 3 Mesa school athletes will be awarded Mesa City Championship awards. City of Mesa schools only entry fee for Hohokam and City Meet is $350 total for boys and girls teams ($175 each).
