Avaunt Ortiz runs 47.26 at Brophy Prep AMDG Invite, AZ No. 1

PHOENIX, AZ. -- McClintock junior Avaunt Ortiz has been very impressive so far three weeks into the track season. Ortiz most recently competed at the 2022 Brophy Prep AMDG Invitational in Phoenix, where he ran 47.26 in the 400m to finish first overall -- and put himself atop the state leaderboards. Ortiz just edged out Mountain Pointe junior Jayden Davis, who came in second at 47.51.

Ortiz has shown range this season as he is also the state leader in the 200m (21.75), which was ran in a -0.9 headwind at The Rattler Booster on March 12. It's been a season of personal bests for Ortiz; he ran 48.36 and 22.03 last year as a sophomore. Now, Ortiz has positioned himself as one of Arizona's top sprinters.
