Scottsdale Distance Classic

 It was cold night for spectators but a great night for runners as the concession stand sold out of the hot chocolate before the 3200 meter run got under way.

 

The 4x800 meter relay kicked off the evening with the O'Connor girls winning the event in 9:58.53.  The Ironwood Ridge girls took 2nd in 10:02.40.    The boys of Goldwater high school won in 8:31.74 with Mingus Union finishing 2nd in 8:37.12.

 

 

 

 

Three heats of the 1600 meter run brought 6 girls under 5:30.  Daylee Burr (Jr., Xavier College Prep, pictured right) led the way with a 5:15.00 followed by Lacey Kalinen (So., Pinnacle) and Sara Miville (Jr., Ironwood Ridge).  Miville held the lead through most of the race but Burr moved to the front on the final lap.

 

 

 

 

 

Steve Magnuson (Sr., Ironwood Ridge) sat back in the pack for the boys 1600 meter run but shot o the front at the 300 meter mark on the final lap winning in 4:28.74.  Paul Smith (O'Connor) finished 2nd in 4:32.01.

 

 

 

 

 

 

There were 4 heats for the 800 meter run and Tess Berghoff (Jr., Arcadia, pictured left) fresh off her 800 meter win at Chandler Rotary made it two in row with a 2:16.81.  Berghoff led the entire way in the 4th and final heat.

 

 

 

Chris Guyll (Sr., Ironwood Ridge) won the boys 800 meter run in 2:00.77.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lacey Kalinen (So., Pinnacle) was the leader in the girls 3200 with a time of 11:56.71.   Alyssa Thompson (Salpointe) finished 2nd in 2:20.38 and Andrea Klimowski (Sr., Northland Prep) took 3rd in 2:20.84.

 

 

 

 

Will Firth (Jr., Brophy Prep, pictured right) won the 3200 in 9:42.27 with teammate Tommy Williams (Jr.) finishing 2nd in 9:49.22.
