How is your summer training going? Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?
Summer training has actually been going really well, not only for me but for my team. I’m excited to see how the season goes because we have all worked really hard. We have gotten very serious about all the supplementary workouts. My favorite workout would have to either be the easy days were the team is relaxed and we talk the entire time or the Saturday long runs because you just feel so accomplished after.
How long have you been running and how did you get started:
I’ve been running for 5½ years. I got started in 7th grade when I went out for the track team and my coach then told me about her club team. So I quit gymnastics and joined the club team.
Which meets will you be running this year?
Yeah I should probably look at the meet schedule. We plan on running Scottsdale, Twilight, Mt. Sac, State and then NXR.
What are your favorite and toughest courses to run in State and out of State?
My absolute favorite course is the Twilight course. The first year I ran it I just fell in love and it has been my favorite course ever since then. It’s just the perfect racing environment and everyone is so positive and cheers everyone on.
So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?
My favorite race would have to be NXR last year. I took about 20 seconds off my PR and just ran my heart out. My favorite memory would have to be cross country camp just last month. The team really bonded and we are so close.
What do you look forward to the most this season?
I look forward to finally competing. Summer training is so hard and I put so much into it that by the time the first meet comes along I feel ready for the season. I can’t wait for the pasta dinners to start back up and going out to eat with my team after a great race.
Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?
Out of all of my accomplishments the one that stands out the most would have to be the 1600 race at State this past track season. All I really remember is seeing the top pack pulling away and me in my mind saying “you have to go, you have to go” and then I ran a time I have been dreaming of since freshman year.
When you are not running what do you like to do?
I love to lie in my bed. My bed is literally my favorite piece of furniture ever invented. Or I like to be outside.
Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?
Yes I do cross train. On double days I normally swim and then I have supplementary workouts I do throughout the week.
How have your coaches influenced you overall?
My coaches are just really supportive and honestly want the best for me and the team. They are really positive and push me to be the best I can possibly be.
Are you considering running after college?
Yes! I have already started talking to college coaches and it has been so much fun. I cannot wait to see what the year brings.
