To run a 15:45 in a 5k race, a 15:30 for 3 miles and place amongst the top 5 at the state meet.

How is your summer training going?   Your favorite workout?  What kind of summer mileage do you run?

This has been my best summer for training; I feel that I have improved a lot since the track season. My favorite workout is going out for a nice, 10+ mile run at a sub-6 minute mile pace.

How long have you been running and how did you get started:

I started running (seriously) my freshman year.  It all started in my 8th grade P.E. class.  My P.E. coach would make the class run this field (about 800m) and I would finish first out of everybody every day.  I was then encouraged by my dad to try cross-country my freshman year of high school.  At first, I did not like it, but my dad said I could stop after 3 weeks of trying it… That day never came.

Which meets will you be running this year?

Already ran: Sole Sports, Chandler Invite, Fountain Hills, and Four Corners

Will be running: Twilight, Doug Conley, City, Sectionals, and State

What are your favorite and toughest courses to run in State and out of State?

My favorite in-state course was definitely the Fountain Hills course; I really enjoyed the hills there. The toughest in-state course I have run is Tumbleweed; it is truly a test of mental strength.  As far as out-of-state courses go, my favorite and toughest course is the Footlocker West regional’s course at Mt. SAC. I love a good challenge and the hills there do nothing less than just that!

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

My favorite cross-country race was the city meet during my sophomore year. This is also my favorite memory because we had won the city title that year. Hamilton has never won that before and it was a true honor to be on the team that made it happen!

What do you look forward to the most this season?

I look forward to seeing all of my rivals/friends from other schools in upcoming races and going at it, head-to-head with each and every one of them!

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

My 1:15:52 finish in P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon when I was 15.

When you are not running what do you like to do?

When I am not running, I enjoy: hanging out with friends, going to the movies, playing my Xbox, and most importantly, sleeping.

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

During the season, I do core work and some strength training 2 days a week.  I occasionally swim and bike if I get a moment. Every morning, before I get out of bed, I do 5 sit-ups. It may not seem like much at all, but one can only press the snooze button so many times.

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

My off-season and in-season coaches have different ways of training, but one thing that remains constant is that they all have inspired me to put in my best effort and nothing less than just that.

Shout-Outs:

  • My family, for congratulating me on every one of my performances and encouraging me to do my best in every race of mine.
  • My team, for being a good group of good people, you guys give me laughs just about every day!
  • My friends and rivals from other schools, I like the rivalry that each and every one of us has with each other, it pushes us to new heights!
  • Anasazi Running camp and the friends I met there, you all made it a fun week’s stay! (This one is for you, Kenny H!)
  • Big one goes out to my dad, for being the one to get me started running and attending just about every single one of my meets! I’ll never take that support for granted!
