The Great South West Highlights - Bryce Lamb New State Record, Girls Win; Boys 2nd

 It was close but the Arizona girls won the Great Southwest win 145 points over Missouri (140.50) points.  Utah came in 3rd with 117 points.   The boys took second with 148 points behind New Mexico (161.50) and ahead of 3rd place Colorado (119.50).   Way to go ARIZONA!!!

 Several Arizona athletes headed east over the weekend to the Great Southwest Track & Field Classic.  

Bryce Lamb (Sr., Chandler)  won two events jumping to a US#1 in the long jump with a jump of 25-10.75 breaking the Arizona All Time State Record in the process.  The 32 year old record (1977) was held by Lamonte King from Dysart who jumped 25-9.75.

The same day Marquise Goodwin  of Texas jumped 26-04.75 at the Texas State Championships, but his jump was wind aided.

Lamb jumped 50-05.50 in the triple jump for the win.

The boys Decathlon and the girls Heptathlon were held Thursday and Friday at the University of New Mexico Stadium.  Michael Bolligar (Sr., Sunrise Mountain) finished 8th in the Decathlon by placing in the top ten in 5 events, earning 5659 points.

In the Heptathlon, three girls from Arizona finished in the top ten.   Samantha Collins (Sr., Westwood) was the highest finisher from Arizona placing 5th with 4306 points.  Breanna Leslie (Sr., Valley Christian) finished 7th with 4216 points and Lindsay Honea (Jr., Marana) finished 10th with 4089 points.

Bolligar, Collins, Leslie and Nonea also took part in the track and field events held on Saturday.  Bolligar finished 4th in the triple jump with a jump of 46-06.00.  Collins finished 2nd in the long jump by jumping 19-09.50, Leslie ran a 46.30 in the 300 hurdles placing 7th and Lindsay Honea finished 12th in the long jump (17-07.50) and 10th in the Javelin with a throw of 101-01.

Ryan Milus (Sr., Hamilton) also won two events winning both the 100 and the 200 meter dash.  Milus ran a blistering time of 10.31 in the 100 dash which would have been an Arizona state record but the race was wind aided.   Milus went on to run a personal best of 21.06 in the 200 meter run moving him to US#6. 

Jasmine Todd (Fr., Chandler) won the triple jump with a 39-06.00.  Todd's jump was two feet farther than 2nd place Nicole Dory (Jr., Texas).

Nathan Estes (Sr., North High) won the hammer throw event with a throw of 189-03.  Estes was also 3rd in the discus (174-5) and 6th in the shot put (55-11.75).

Bryan McBride (Jr., Sandra Day O'Connor) won the high jump by jumping 6-08.

Serena Williams (Jr., Peoria) took home the gold when she ran the winning time of 11.81 in the 100 meter dash.

Jessica Rydberg (Sr., Blue Ridge) ran a 10:45.78 to win the 3200 meter run.

4x100 Meter Relay

The Arizona team of Alexis Clay (So., Chandler), Tamara Pridgett (Jr., Rincon), Serene Williams (Jr., Peoria) and Larissa Matthews (Sr., Chandler) won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.26.
