Top Stories Of 2018: Jordan Black Clinches D4 State Title

Jordan Black (North Phoenix Prep, Jr.) worked out like a monster over the summer logging in the miles while throwing down fast times in the metric distances for club track. After finishing runner-up in the D4 Boys 3200m at State, he made it clear this fall that he wasn't messing around.
He finished 7th at Doug Conley and then ran 15:51 in the Sweepstakes race at Desert Twilight, which from that point on, ranked him at the top of the D4 Boys Leaderboard. Then two weeks later at the Titan Invitational, he ran 15:53 in the Small School Boys race for the fastest performance of the day along the Crossroads Park course.

Going into the State Championships, it seemed like the D4 Boys race was Black's to lose, but he pressed the lead all the way to the finish and with the utmost confidence he ripped the tape apart at the finish to clinch the individual D4 Boys State Championship Title and the first for the North Phoenix Prep Gladiators. Over the past year, Jordan Black progressed from 5th place at the AIA Cross-Country State Championships in 2017 to D4 Boys 3200m Runner-Up in May of 2018, to D4 Boys State Champion this past November. He was the 16th fastest boy in the State but he held peak through his performances over the latter half of the season at the most important meets and that is why he lands as the No. 10 Story of 2018.
